Keep eating the whole grain pasta. You might want to add a vegan protein shake to your diet. Some are great if you add a banana or other fruit to eat. This is common sense, but you are working out right? You don't gain muscle by what you eat, but how you use your body. Some people never bulk up, but that doesn't mean that they aren't strong. Its just they way their bodies are made. Eat sensibly, work out, and accept and adapt to the way your body naturally is.

ice cream

Tofu, and plenty of fried dough.I saw a monk eating his lunch, and OH MY GLORD, his plate was filled with imitation pork, duck fish prawn, and worse was its all fried stuff, the gentleman was like, twice my size... (talking about me being fat, now i find a fatter one....)

bread, pasta, and other starches...

Are you so desperately underweight that you need to gain weight , or is it just the media hype to be muscular ?
If so rest assured women do not like muscular men they find them narcissistic ( which they are and women an dd men that are attracted to them must really want a relationship going no where . Women prefer the youthful slim look , the time a man is at his most fertile and that of a woman too

However if I'm on the wrong track. All starch foods Potatoes , rice , Bananas , pasta , legumes ,beans

But you'd be much healthier staying slim

tofu, starch and root crops

To gain muscle, stick to higher protein meat alternatives - nuts and beans are great and so are veggie burgers, tofu, etc. Read the labels and choose the high protein foods rather than the starches/carbohyrdrates (carbs are great to give you a boost - especially for cardio, but not as good when trying to gain lean muscle). There are also some great protein shakes and supplements on the market, check out your local GNC or Vitamin Shoppe.

You need protein- the kind found in meat which is why you were born with teeth.
There are protein powders, found at your local market, which you can add to your food and shakes.
You can find it in beans also.
I'm sure that protein powder, as a rule, isn't a natural way to obtain protein- if you know what I mean.

Green leafy vegetables

If you want to gain muscle, then work the muscle. Lift heavy weights.

Well, if you want to build some muscle, you need to start working out and lifting weights. Good ways to support this are to up your protein intake with foods like beans, lentils, nuts, tofu, and other soy products. Also, you can increase your consumption of healthy fats found in avocados, olive oil, and nuts.

Eat a apple pie a day, that will work...
