Do meat substitutes taste exactly like meat?!
Do meat substitutes taste exactly like meat?

I found if its been awhile since you have tasted meat, it tastes pretty darned close! There is a vegan sausage I believe its made by lite life? Man, we were really confused when we first tried that! Almost too close to the real thing.
No.
It tastes of flour and beancurd (tofu).
Generally, no. They can't really get the flavors right. Usually they focus more on textures. It feels like biting into meat but doesn't taste the same. Boca burgers are a good example. They'll never be quite as flavorful as a real burger, but with some cheese and ketchup they can be darn good.
Hell no, it's flour and tofu based and tastes very odd...
Some do. I think a lot of the fake chicken tastes really authentic, even better sometimes. Vegan hot dogs taste pretty real, but also have a better flavor than real ones. A lot of my meat eating friends prefer the taste of some fake meats to real ones, they say they taste is cleaner and stronger, and your body reacts better to them. I haven't eaten meat in 11 years, but when I eat some meat substitutes I'm reminded of the tastes of the real thing back when I was a kid.
Morningstar farms has the most authentic tasting Tofu Chicken I've ever had. And SmartDogs makes really good vegetarian hot dogs. I never liked beef so I don't eat vegetarian beef stuff, except for Stonewall's Jerquee, a fake jerky that I'm sure tastes nothing like real jerky but is good nonetheless.
Hope that helps!
I've only ever tried the chicken patties and the fake hamburgers. I can't tell the fake chicken from the real, but then chicken has a pretty mild flavor.
I made one of the burgers once, and if you doctor is up with mustard and ketchup and the usual condiments it might fool you--but later on when you burp, you're going to go, "What on earth did I eat?"
In Switzerland we have a brand that taste great. Their Schnitzel is like the "real" stuff.
No. And they certainly are not the nutritional equivalent of meat, either.
Not exactly, but close! Thr grilled soy burgers are great!
No but sometimes the meat substitutes tastes better than the meat itself LOL
GOD NO!! there is no substitute for the taste of meat mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...
Many of them do not. There are some that are very close, but it just depends on the brand. Some veg dogs I get are nearly the same. Since they don't have animal fat in them that is one thing you don't get in taste, of course that's healthier.
Some taste better than others, but they don't have the same taste as meat.
After you have been eating them for awhile they taste better, maybe because you body doesn't need all the fat in a burger to make it taste good.
When I first switched to a vegetarian diet I didn't like the burgers, but as time passed I began to like them and even think they tasted like meat. The human body does very well on a vegetarian diet and taste change. I enjoy foods that I never likes as a meat eater. Fruits and vegetables taste richer and more flavorful, since I stopped filling mt body with a lot of processed junk food and fat/cholesterol filled meat.
