Horrible gas from soy milk and not tofu, why?
Answers:
MANY Veggie milks(Soy, Oat Almond etc) add Carregean it can cause tummy reaction. Sure does mine. It's a form of seaweed that acts as a thickener, emulsifier in the product.
I have the same problem with veggie cheeses.
IDK! A solution is that you can drink rice milk or almond milk instead of soy milk. Soy milk is also more prosessed than tofu.
Well, I assume you cook your tifu before you eat it, right? Cooking soy is like cooking vegetables, it removes the gas-producing elements. Try rice milk. It's far tastier.
Perhaps its the cane sugar. Soy milk has sugar added to it.
Could be the brand of soy milk you use. Some contain carrageenan which I've heard can cause digestive issues for some people. Maybe another additive as well? Soem soy milks have crazy lists of ingredients. Since the soy beans in soy milk are cooked as part of the process, I don't think that's the answer. Or maybe you have a slight intolerance to soy and when you have soy milk you consume more than when you consume tofu? I don't know, but my fav brand of soy milk is Vitasoy. Try it!
