Soy milk/cheese question?!

Question:

Soy milk/cheese question?

Is there any soy milk that tastes good with cereal (& cookies)? And is there any way to make dishes such as pasta, spaghetti, pizza, grilled cheese sandwiches taste good with soy cheese?

ALSO, any advice on good soy ice cream?

I want to go vegan so bad but I think I'll die.

Haha, one last thing, is it possible to get used to soy products?

P.s. I'm already lacto-vegetarian.

Silk vanilla seems to be the choice for something to go with your cereal. In the US the 'best of the worst' non-dairy 'cheezes' are the "Heartkind" products (also called "Follow your Heart"). From the UK I hear good things about Redwood vegan products but those are illegal in the US! A much better option is to use Nutritional Yeast (NOT brewer's yeast!) as a mix-in for pasta. For pizza and grilled 'cheeze' I'd recommend the recipes in "The new Farm Vegetarian Cookbook" by Louise Hagler and Dorothy Bates! You can also search for cashew based recipes to make your own 'cheeze' at home. Those seem IMHO to be the best as a rule, just keep in mind they don't have much shelf-life.

The BEST vegan icebean is from Turtle Mountain and sells as "So Delicious", if you see a carton that says Soy Delicious avoid it as it's old. It's good enough I stopped making my own!

Get that cookbook I recommend and you can learn to make your own soyfoods that taste exactly the way you want them too!

and go to your local grocery store look for vegan cheese dont get vegitarian chese because it has some milk products in it

so manny qestions but i will answer one i loove soy stuff and you can get used to them i did in a few days

Try them out. You can get a quart or liter box of Vitasoy brand at your supermarket or health food store. They've got flavors to mask the soy.... you can usually get vanilla. Some come with extra calcium and vitamins but usually have an icky after-taste.

Soy cheese is a lot harder. After two decades of trying soy cheese, I'd say forget it. You can try veggie burgers.... there are all different kinds, but you can start with Morning Star farms... they even make a veggie bacon that's convincing. Vegan hot dog substitutes include Smart Dogs and Tofu Pups.

For frozen desserts, you might want to skip soy and try an Italian ice, or gellate. Lots of different sorbet flavors to try. I really like raspberry, blueberry, mint, peach, green tea, and other flavors. Again, you can find these at the right grocery store.

Some people like Rice Dream as something coming close to ice cream.

Don't forget soy yogurts. To me, these taste better than Rice Dream, but you be the judge.

Recent alternatives to soy milk include oat milk, rice milk, and various nut-derived beverages such as almond milk.

Ease into it gradually and try out things with an open mind. Be patient with the food industry.... they change slowly.

The soy ice cream that I like is called "soy dream". Excellent-- I love it more than ice cream made with dairy. As for soy milk, I usually get chocolate flavoured of almost any brand, and I drink this every day, instead of cow's milk. For cereal or smoothies, I buy vanilla flavoured soy milk. The only soy milk I don't like is the unsweetened, unflavoured type. I also eat soy cheese, soy meat (Yves) and tofu. Yum!

I've had the soy dream ice cream, and it was very good. I've never been able to get used to drinking soy milk straight out of the glass, no matter what the flavor was, though. I use plain rice milk (Rice Dream brand) for that, and with cereal. To me the rice milk tastes more like the regular milk of my childhood memories. I only use soy milk if cooking it into a recipe.

I love vanilla soymilk with my cereal... I think that it is the best :).... and chocolate soymilk is sooo good.

Honestly...I don't really like soy cheese, sorry that is just me... You could try different brands though... test some out. One thing... Beware... they tend to put not- vegan cheese alternative in the vegetarian section of the supermarket... so just read the label first. I kinda like pasta and pizza w/o the cheese... I don't know if you have tried it yet... but maybe just exclude the cheese... have your spaghetti w/o cheese... or try a tomato pie... instead of regular cheese pizza...
Just a suggestion.. not for everybody though...

I have tried toffutti brand ice cream (I'm not an ice cream person though, so I don't get it regularly) I thought it was good.

what do you mean?... getting used to veggie(soy) burgers?... yeah I guess... I like them... And I never liked real meat(before I was a vegetarian)

Good luck on becoming a vegan.

Your dairy substitutions don't necessarily have to be soy-based. Almond and rice milks are delicious and don't have that beany undertone soy milk can have. You can also buy rice and nut-based 'cheeze'.
