Why an when did you become a vegetarian or vegan?
Answers:
Around 30 years ago, for ethical and spiritual reasons. An added bonus has been 30 years of excellent health.
i didn't.
And when have you stopped beating your spouse, eh?
I went Vegetarian because of family inhereited cardio vascular heart disease. My sister and I found out that we carry the mutated chromosome for heart disease. My sister is not a vegetarian, but she has to take a doctor prescribed folic acid pill everyday. I started on a low fat vegetarin diet, I am currently trying to vegan...2 out of 3 meals a day are vegan and the one meal is i guess considered vegetarian...and some days are pure vegan meals. it really depends on how I feel. but I am trying harder to eat low fat, no animal bi-products more often, its been tough but that is why.
Well, its a long long longer longest story ever and it will take for ever to type sorry.
Lets just say i used my grannies methods!
vegan like 2 yrs ago. why? because animals have the right to live just like us
I became veggie soon after I married. My wife was veggie, and I saw it fit to follow her example instead of "converting" her to being a non-vegetarian.
I worked in the meat industry 30 years ago and I saw the utter crap that went into processed meats and the hormones and anti-biotics that were pumped into animals every day just to keep them alive or make them grow faster in the horrible conditions in which they were kept .
Since then several of the people I worked with and who ate meat on a daily basis have died of heart attacks or strokes in their 40s or 50s and I am still free of those problems even though I have a family history of heart disease.
If you give up meat you feel stronger, fitter and more alert. In my present job I do heavy physical work most days and I know I am much fitter than my father was at the same age. It's just a question of educating yourself about nutrition so that you make sure you get the right amount of minerals and vitamins etc. Supplements are not necessary.
27 years ago, I hated the taste and texture of meat, my mother still thinks it's a phase I'm going thru!
btw I survived on chips and beans or ploughmans salad at schoool, it was like "what's a vegetarian?"..................... dunno, I only want to be a model!" Did anyone understand then .............ooooooooooo noooooooo. but hey it's all good now even if I became a bit more veggie aware by age 13 and stopped eating gelatinous jelly babies and polo mints (when I decided if I could look it in the eyes I didn't want to eat it). Polo mints are now ok, extra strong mints still apparently need animal bits in them, as do wine gums etc etc! It's a farce we (not that I knew then) have the metabolism of a rabbit (i.e. vegetarian). My answer to why are you a veggie goes like this............rabbits are veggie................who wants to be a rabbit........................... have you seen rabbits shag? Kinda works (especially on men). Happy cabbage hunting everyone.
I became a vegetarian maybe a year and a half ago, only cheating a few times due to extreme cravings. I'm not sure, but I think I was reading an article about some one who was vegetarian and wanted to read into vegetarianism more to see what it was all about. So I did that, found www.GoVeg.com, seen all the videos of feed lots and slaughter houses, read all the articles, and I didn't look at meat the same way again. I was also concerned about my weight and after the change I lost a simple 10 pounds in about a month or 2 with pretty much no exercise, just the usual walking and stuff I did throughout the day. The texture of meat is also plain disgusting to me now.
i became a vegetarian 24 years ago, it was my attempt at rebellion!! as there were no such things as vege options in those days and my mum would be at her whits end trying to find some sort of substitute......nut cutlet...yuk...
Last year in may I became vegetarian. My friend was a vegetarian and I informed myself about it and decided to do it. Since a few weeks I'm vegan because I think eating anything that comes from an animal supports cruelty. (Sorry for my English, I'm German.)
Three years ago. Because There were plenty other alternatives out there that taste great and are meat-free. they just don't advertise so I needed to dig. And because they say that by not eating meat, you are taking a bigger impact off of global warming than the average person would be by not driving a car. Hope this helps and have a great day! -question001
I went veggie after reading Fit for Life BUT in retrospect I'd always hated the taste of meat. Growing up when I was served meat it always had to be SMOTHERED in cheese, sauces or something. If I'd eat a cheeseburger and started tasting the hamburger I'd drink something really fast or eat something to cover the taste. I was 14 or 15. It's not for any animal rights reasons, mostly taste reasons.
I became vegetarian when I was about 12. I used to write letters to my local council telling them that they couldn't kill bunny rabbits on this field because it was unfair, then I realised I couldn't complain about animal treatment when I myself was eating them. So I changed for the better.
i became a vegetarian 4 years ago because i think its cruel to breed animals just to eat them and the way that they breed them is cruel for example chickens are locked in small cages that they cant move around in their feet are sometimes cut of because they usually get infected and sometimes their becks are cut off that's always why you should only have free range eggs and not eat meat.
I was 12 and cooked myself a burger but I didn't cook it properly and blood came out. The smell was disgusting and I've been a full on vegetarian ever since.
I was a vegetarian then i heard that the cows blood touches the milk in the udder know iam a vegan i just turned vegan and its hard to find vegan food can u tell me what vegans can eat and what sweets and chocolate can i eat and what pop and juice can i drink and what is Benzoates perservative do they put Benzoates perservative in codfish and margerine and soft drinks or
I am a vegitarian because it's murder! or to think of it another way people say we are animals, so eating other animals could be classed as canniblism is sadly illegal!
When: 1st March 1992 (birthday).
Why: Brought up and still am in a vegetarian household (though I have tried chicken before)
vegan for 5 months, I was able to disconnect the notions and meat-eating and masculinity (and subsequently, the notion of masculinity itself.) I understood for the first time in my life that my pain and interests where not unlike the pain and interests of animals.
I became vegetarian at 7.I realised where meat came from and refused to eat it from then on.
I became vegan at 16 when I learnt about the cruelty involved in the egg and dairy industries.
I am now 25.
