If you are new to being a vegetarian I would suggest checking out the vegetarian publications that are out there. Vegetarian Times has some good stuff, but you may be better off going to the library and just searching for vegetarian cookbooks. A book that really helped me when I first became vegetarian was Becoming Vegetarian: The Complete Guide to Adopting a Healthy Vegetarian Diet by Vesanto Melina,Brenda Davis, and Victoria Harrison.
Being a vegetarian doesn't mean just being stuck with eating french fries and salad. A lot of really great ethnic food is vegetarian. Remember to eat a balanced diet and to still get enough protein from a variety of sources like tofu, nutbutters, and low fat diary products.
Also you may want to look at the food blog www.101cookbooks.com as she has a lot of vegetarian and vegan recipes.
try morning star soy chicken nuggets, i thought my mom was tricking me when she told me it wasnt really chicke, also tofu is really good becuase you can make it taste like whatever you want. and veggie burgers.
Black bean burritos, lentil salad with tomato and dill, lentil dal with pitas, veggie burgers w/sharp cheddar, pasta with tomatoes mozzarella and basil, I could go on and on....
Salads or Try Amy's Brand stuff it's pretty good and they have both vegetarian/vegan stuff as in no dairy/eggs animal by products since you didn't exactly specify like what kind of vegetarian you are. or Mediterranean food
The important thing to remember if you're a vegetarian is that you need to eat a balanced diet to make sure you're getting all the nutrients your body needs.

Well, there is pretty much everything in a vegetarian option nowadays.
Tofu is really versatile, and will literally soak up flavours, so experiment with it. It's really good for protein.
Nuts. Really good for vitamins minerals and fibre.
Soya / Vegetable / Spicey bean burgers. They're really nice and filling. ;) I'm always eating them
Pasta, vegetarian lasagne's lovely, and you can pretty much add whatever you want.
Marmite. Not really a food idea, but has stuff like B12 in, which is hard to get with a vegetarian diet.
>.>;; I uploaded a table of nutrients and what veggie foods have them in for you.

Good luck with being veggie, hope I've helped you ^_____^;;
You should eat beans and nuts for protein(maybe an occasional egg), salads of course, tofu(if you don't like it,try goat cheese), theres are some really good veg. pizzas you can make like goat cheese and spinach(yummmmm!) It's a big change I know, but after a while you won't miss meat at all.
