Question for vegans married to meat eaters.?!
Question for vegans married to meat eaters.?
How is it going so far? Can you teach me any mental tricks that make it okay, from a vegan perspective, for your spouse to be eating cows, chickens, and fishes?
I have avoided dating meat eaters so far, but I am finding that this choice limits my options considerably, especially since there are more vegan women than men.
Answers:
I'm a vegetarian married to an omnivore. We have vegetarian dinners and he eats what he wants out of the house. It works for us because we can both eat meatless meals. He accepts that his meat meal will have to be outside the home (lunch for example) and is fine with it. If you married someone not fine with it, there are other issues there.
I just picture him eating me instead, I'm meat after all.
Not cannibalism of course, just like oral
My last relationship was with a meat-eater. For me it was about respecting his choices for himself. But then again, I'm not vegan for anmial rights reasons either.
I have been a vegetarian for about 10 years. We have been married for 34 years, plus I have 2 sons ...all three of them eat cows, chickens, fish...etc. I still cook for them....I won't say that I like to prepare meat dishes......but I guess I feel that is is their choice to eat meat, as much as it is my choice to not eat meat.
I don't feel that I have the right to force my ideas on them, just as they should respect my decision. It actually works out really well.
There are many things you can make, but just make 2 separate dishes....one with meat, and the other without.
Like meatless spagetti sauce, meatless tacos, vegetarian soup, etc.
I am a vegetarian solely because of my love for animals, and I don't want to be a part of them dying so I can eat....espescially since there are so many other options.
I guess what I am trying to say, is that for me it has not been a huge deal, I respect them (don't agree...but respect their right to choice), and they are fine with me. It really is easy, even when eating out, or potluck suppers, etc...sure I get kidded sometimes, but then I get a chance to speak up and explain just why I choose this way, and I can stand up for animals in my small way.....hopefully getting other people to think about it, too. My best wishes to you.
