Don't listen to anyone who tries to tell you a vegan diet isn't healthy for a kid. My family made the vegan switch when my son was 1 year old. The first year when he was still eating dairy, eggs, and meat, he was sick almost every month during his first winter and spring. This year, he hasn't even had a sniffle!

So that said, here are some things that my son loved to eat at 9 months and still does!

spiral pasta with tomato sauce ( you can cut up the pasta. they love to pick stuff up with their fingers, and it's a great way to introduce a fork)

cubed and sauteed tofu with mixed veggies. You can put any kind of sauce you like on this one. my son loved home made teriyaki

grill some tempeh, cube it up and serve it with ketchup or a nice mushroom gravy

setian is also something they love. Look up a recipe for "chicken rice bake" and just substitute the setian for chicken. You can also find mushroom soup that is non dairy in health food stores and it makes a wonderful gravy for this dish

soy hot dogs (like Lite Life...morningstar farms has dairy so be careful)

If you live in an area where there are a lot of jewish people, go to the kosher section of your supermarket and see if they have Meal Mart brand vegan chicken patties. my son goes crazy for these, and they even have them in nuggets.

why dont you cut out carbs and root vegetables too!

Try veg purees and finger foods like carrot batons. etc

here's a tip - child abuse. ask your baby's pediatrician about putting the baby on a vegetarian diet. if the doctor gives you tips or says it would be ok - you better be looking for a new doctor.

There is so much information available on the net, why dont you do some googling? It is very important but also totally possible to raise your child on a vegetarian, and even vegan diet. Check out the links I pasted.

You have made a right decision offering your child a good start in life. Parents always make decisions concerning their childrens diet, because they are too young to know what is good for them. So if people criticise you for "not letting your child decide" thats just because they have nothing smart to say.

I strongly suggest that you dont feed your child with cows milk which is made for calves that are meant to develop much faster than a human child. I recommend that you take a look at vegan sites. Google "raising of a vegan child" and similar.

Don't you think calling meat eaters "fat" is a little bit rude on your part? We all should respect one anothers' dietary choices. If any rude meat-eaters answer here, we'll just neg them or flag them depending on how rude.

At nine months, babies still should be getting the bulk of their essential nutrients from milk. Are you still nursing? One year is a good age to wean. Otherwise, use a high-quality soy product unless the child is allergic to soy, in which case you're going to spend more money on more expensive alternatives.

Even babies in omnivorous families start their solid food consumption with cereals and pureed fruits and veggies. Making your own is easy if organic is a value for you, and natural food stores often stock prepared products.

The key time to worry about food is after weaning. Vegetarians most frequently have problems with insufficient protein or folic acid, while other nutrients that Americans often lack (fiber, other vitamins, antioxidants) are in surplus. You'll need to educate yourself on a child's RDA of protein and folic acid and ensure that the diet contains adequate amounts of them.

Just keep it simple, if you freeze lots of different puree's in an ice cube tray you can make lots of different combinations just by mixing together when you defrost.
When a little older just freeze any leftovers from pan, soon you will have a freezer full.I tried lots of recipes for baby food but the simple stuff always went down better babies have a very sensitive pallet.
Both my two boys have been brought up veggie and they are both very healthy, which seams to annoy all the people that said we were evil child abusers and all that. Good luck.

The main thing you should be concerned about is if your baby is getting all the vitamins and minerals he/she needs to stay healthy. Some ideas that you might think are interesting is to try and go to the library. The library has their own books and other library books (prospectors) that you can check out. This might help you find something you like alot. The other thing is try googling "vegetarian baby food" it will give you a list of different web pages.

Puree the foods that you are eating, before you add seasoning.

At nine months, a child should still be nursing, but should also be taking some semi-solid foods. In a few months, when your doctor says it's OK to to do so, those foods can be slightly less pureed. But you can do this in batches and freeze what isn't needed that day.

remeber the 4 food groups? Thats what a child needs.If they choose to be a vegetarian later on then great.But give this child a chance to decide what to ingest.

Hmmm... I don't have any children, so I'm not even sure what kids eat at 9 months! The author is a vegan mother who posts all sorts of recipes and tips on making your kid's (and your own) vegan food fun and appetizing. It has helped me so much, I can't thank her enough!

I'm not a fat meat eater. How do you know that your 9 month old baby is a vegetarian? Has the baby been given the choice? If you think you really should deprive your developing child of primary protein then consult a dietitian and don't rely on answers from this site.

i dont recomend raising your baby vegetarian
i am a vegetarian and im not one of those people who is saying that because i think vegetarianism is stupid cuz i dont but i know people who have raised their child vegetarian but had to start giving them meat because their teath got truely screwed up.

the recomended age to start being a veg is between 10 and 12 depending on the person
