Well im a vegetarian and before becoming one i research some about this.

1. The meat have lot of cholesterol, and that could be one of the factors that could make the vegetarians to live longer.

2. Every kind of meat develops certain toxines since the moment the animal dies, that are not very good to us bacause we cannot hanndle or process that kind of toxine.

3. the animals that naturally eat meat have short intestines that process or get what it must get, and throw it away, mean while we have long intestines and we get lots of toxines i talked about in the second point.

4. Our digestive system its more alike certain types of ape that only eats fruits and nuts.

3. Being vegetarian doesn′t means having a lack of proteins, bacause there are food with lots of high quality protein like the soy or the tofu, or by mixing certain foods like rice and beans, etc.., one can have a very good protein, i go to gym normally and if it where not for the proteins i would not develop muscle, or maintain the one i have.

Have fun

Vegetarians.

That's what the scientists say. And I'm among those who, in Bill Maher's terms, reads compasses and not chicken entrails in order to make my decisions.

I am no expert but most vegitarians that I know have health problems later on in life.

no , quite often vegetarians are sickly looking people. don't look healthy due to lack of protein. they often don't seem very happy either.. they think they are superior to normal people.

Work Hard.
Eat Right.
Die Anyway.

it's not only a belief, when it is a proven fact that vegans live longer than carnivores because of our heathy diet.

animal protein = bad for humans

no, but i read recently in the paper that vegetarians are more intelligent on average.
although it didn't show higher intelligence for vegans.

Hiya,
In the animal world herbivores genearlly live longer....elephants, turtles etc...as compared to cats, dogs and lions....
vegetable proteins are healthy....!!!
Good luck

Multiple long-term studies in several countries indicate a greatly reduced risk of cancer (40% lower chance of death) and heart disease (20% lower chance of death) among vegetarians/vegans (veg*ans). The longer average lifespan of veg*ans, even after factoring out things like smoking, physical activity, etc., is very interesting...
here's what I think:
In addition to the direct benefits of consuming less meat, I think that the general lifestyle of vegetarians has a big impact on these studies. Vegetarians generally have a higher income, have higher IQs (as dinogeorgie said), and obviously care about their health, at least casually. They also probably exhibit fewer risk-taking behaviors because of these factors. These things aren't the result of being a vegetarian- they just indicate what kinds of people are more likely to become veg*ans. It's also not meant to sound arrogant and anybody who uses these statistics to feel superior hasn't really thought about them.

The thing about steak staying in your intestines for years is totally untrue, however all food rots while in your digestive tract (that's why carnivores have short alimentary canals). If you leave a steak and an apple in the sun for 3 days, I'm pretty sure you can guess which smells worse. Whether you consider meat food or not, there's no way around it- it's a carcass and it's decaying.
I'm an anthropologist and I refuse to say that humans are herbivores, because it's simply not true: we're omnivores. We have survived because we can eat pretty much anything (I remember that guy in the Guinness Book of World Records that ate planes and bikes lol). This also means that we have a choice, and modern technology and trade gives us access to veg*an sources of everything needed for optimum health.
For me, it's logically a no-brainer but to each their own.

And let's stop calling veg*ans pale and weak- there are multiple vegan boxers, weightlifters, and Olympians who would love to correct you. A vegetarian can be just as healthy or unhealthy as anybody else. A little bit of objective research online about vegetarian nutrition should make that very clear.

I have something to add to HG's. Animals are vaccinated with alot of chemicals since young to prevent diseases like bird flu etc , and also some hormones to encourage growth so they can be marketed faster thus more economical. These chemicals remain in their body and we are also unconciously consuming them. We have too much chemicals (unwanted ) in our blood stream already.
I have a friend here in Singapore. Her name is Teresa Hsu and she has been a vegetarian all her life. I have known her for almost 40 years. You know how old she is now? 107 years old or young as she puts it herself. I can bring you to her for a visit if you like. Although a little weak now (just a little, and who doesnt at this age), she is still as alert as ever. Still learns languages, reading books on philosophy and religions. Does yoga every morning and night. I have never heard her sick since I known her. And she was the ONE who introduced me to vegetarian based not on religious grounds but on most reasons given by HG. What do you say to that? Most important, we must know how to balance our diet. Thats all. There are many other forms of protein.
