I do it for health, and the animals.
Being vegetarian reduces the risk of certain cancers, heart disease(even American heart assosiation say so), and osteoperosis.
Human being are different from tigers, cats, etc. We are not made to eat meat(our teeth, stomach acid, digestive tract, hands prove this). Tigers have to eat meat to survive, they also do not have the ability to feel sorry for something else, that is what seperates us from animals. Many people gain knowledge, feel emotions, and still decide to eat animals they know have been mistreated and tortured. Kind of ironic.
How do you not know animals are being mistreated? I hate to break it to you but the meat your eating doesn't come from Old MacDonalds farm with open green pastures for grazing, mud puddles, and a bed of hay to sleep the day away in, it comes from a factory where animals are cramed together in cages and mistreated because workers could care less about the well being of the animal as long as it grows big enough, and can be slaughtered later.
I honestly did it to lose weight, but Im not some fanatic about it, if people want to eat meat, let them........I crave salmon sometimes and I eat that, but I dont judge others who choose to eat meat.
Humans are meat-eaters. We have incisors for a reason!!! We are predators...we have our eyes in the front of our skulls instead of on the side. We were MEANT to eat meat!!
Vegetarianism is all good and fine - and if someone wants to do it, they can have at it, but the human body has evolved to eat meat AND vegetables.....no two ways about it! Our bodies NEED protein!
The only reason I am a vegetarian is because I think meat is disgusting. I can't get past the visual. It's just so gross to me. I don't care what other people do. It's just not for me.
I think it is very good to be a vegetarian because you will always be healthy and hydrated and the answer to your secound question is human beings have been eating animals since biblical times
watch these vedio, and it explains itself...

plus, I don't belive humans are naturally onmivors, or we could eat meat raw, cooking is un-natural, but other poeple will disagree w/me, but then, people also eat artificial ingrediants... does that make it ok, because we can means it natural? not in my opinion.
Because eating meat is wastefull.Only about 10% of the human population can even afford meat and raising meat is very expensive.I do not remember the exact numbers but all in all raising crops can feed like 100 times more people than the amount of space, time and food to raise a cow.
I do it because of all the above reasons and because people starve to give the grain to our animals. I just don't think that's fair!
If you wanna see how animals get treated go to PETA website or sth like that and you'll see!
i do it because i felt better when i stopped eating meat and because our supply system sucks. in an ideal world i would eat meat that i had hunted because it wouldnt be the main focus of my diet but a side dish to be eaten rarely. also in an ideal world the meat would not be raised by humans with the sole intent of producing something but would be species living as intended.
Some just can't hack the fact that animals are slaughtered for food. I believe that if that's the case then you should be a vegetarian anyway. I'm now comfortable with where my food comes from but I don't believe we need to mistreat the animals during their lives even if we are only breeding them for food, so I support Compassion in World Farming and only eat free-range and organic meat etc. Meat that comes from animals that haven't suffered stress in their life tastes nicer anyway. I disagree with "factory" farming and only eat meat occasionally therefore - even if you believe we humans are meant to eat it, there's no reason why we need to eat it every day.
I think that all meat should be sold with a big picture of the animal it came from on the package - if you can't deal with that, don't eat it!
My mum is a vegetarian and has been since she was little. She's not that bothered about the ethical side of things (she wears leather, for example, and she eats food that contains animal by-products). She doesn't eat meat because she doesn't like the taste or texture of it.
meat contains a lot of things that are not healthy....it's a healthier life and there have been investigations about american farms of pigs, cows, chickens and any animal...it's not right what they do....animals have the same right that we do to be free, you know? i know it sounds stupid and i thought so too until i saw with my own eyes the cruelty that is done, they feel suffering just like we do and i dont know i just live through my morals and i know that eating an innocent being is just not right

Where do we get the ideas that cows and pigs are mistreated? Have you been living under a rock?
Tigers don't change their diet because they need meat to survive.
I don't know why you're comparing humans to tigers and dogs anyway.
Get back to me when you can actually give me some factual information.
I do it for health and ethical reasons. Also, it is not good for the environment and ecology. More than half of the land in the US for growing crops is to feed livestock.
See table 6:
http://www.ers.usda.gov/publications/eib...
So companies go out to other countries and destroy the land (like the Amazon forest) to grow more feed for raising animals.
http://www.greenpeace.org/usa/campaigns/...
This is horribly inefficient. People seemed concerned about the destruction of rainforests and people not having enough to eat, but most of what is happening is to grow more feed and raise more livestock.
Have you ever been to a stockyard? It smells terrible because the manure is just piling up on the ground in humongous pools. A butcher shop doesn't smell too good either. If something smells that bad I wouldn't really want to eat it.
People have the ability to choose what they want to eat, and they can live without eating animals, but some animals have to eat meat to survive due to their digestive system and growth functions.
Here are lots of pictures of animals, I guess they are all being treated well.

i just want to eat more vegetables
Look at the teeth of those animals, THEY are meant to eat meat to survive...we dont have those teeth and can be perfectly healthy without meat. Google "meet your meat" and watch the video..then come back.
Not only am I vegetarian for moral and health
reasons, I think it is better for you spiritually
if you do not eat dead flesh.
