My 3 yr old son hates breakfast cereals. Any breakfast ideas?!

Question:

My 3 yr old son hates breakfast cereals. Any breakfast ideas?

My son doesn't eat any of the breakfast cereals. He only eats a slice of toast with butter. I am at a loss to decide on what to give him. How will he get enough iron? I am a vegetarian and don't eat meat. Any ideas?

Answers:
Because you are a vegetarian doesn't mean that you have to sacrifice your poor son. Babies NEED meat, for the Iron, the acid folic, they NEED a balanced diet. If you continue to feed him like that you are going to be guilty of his malnutrition, lack of calcium, weak bones, weak immune system, anemia. It is just countless. Let him decide when his is an adult whether he want to be a vegetarian or not.

Make fruit kabobs! He can even help pushing the fruits onto the skewers! Kids love to eat what they've created!

A bowl of apple cinnamon oatmeal with a small scoop of ice cream in it. Dessert for breakfast! Who can resist?

Do you eat eggs? (Some vegetarians do so I'm offering this next one) Toad in the Holes. Butter both sides of a slice of bread, cut out a hole in the center about 2 inches in diameter, place the bread in a hot frying pan, crack an egg in the hole, fry for a minute, flip over and cook for another minute. I never figured out why they are called that, but because it's got a funny name the kids loved them.

first a child will never starve themselfs, that said, if you only give the child cerial he will eat it when hungry. you need to take conteol back from him

quaker breakfast cookies, oatmeal they have kids varieties breakfast bars yogurt

try the different oatmeals in the individual packets. they usually have interesting fruits in them or how about cream of wheat, make it thin and add rice milk

try to ask him to drink milk..

Have you tried hot cereals? Oatmeal? Try rice milk or goat's milk.
Give him fruit or yogurt or make smoothies with yogurt, friut, juice, milk. (you might even be able to add a little something else in there that he needs like a bit of organic granola. I don't blame him for not liking food that comes in a box! He sounds like a pretty smart kid to me. Can you give him eggs?
Have you asked for suggestions at the health food store?
Also, you may be able to give him food that 's not the normal breakfast fare but has everything he needs. Think outside the box (like he does). The breakfast police won't come after you if you give him lunchtime food or dinnertime food at breakfast time.:)

For iron, chew on a bike rack!

My suggestion: a nice greasy fry-up! Sausages, bacon, eggs and a few slices of toast.

And eh presto, no more geeky child!

Make sure he eats whole grain toast at least and some cut up fruit.

oatmeal with brown sugar?

You really dont want the iron thats in enriched breakfast cereals anyway-its metal shavings here is a link

Try some quinoa flakes heated with a little water and cream-its a super protein source, and has a nice mild flavor. You can add some cashews and berries if he likes those, and a little agave nectar or honey. Would he like oatmeal or cream of rice? My daughter likes those types of things for breakfast. You could also make him some bannana, zuchini, or carrot muffins for his breakfast-we avoid wheat, so I make them with rice or quinoa flour. If he enjoys his toast, maybe just try offering him some fresh fruit to go with it=a banana, handful of grapes, sliced kiwi, or some berries. He can get his iron from his other meals throughout the day. If he likes smoothies, you can easily sneak some leafy greens into a banana, yogurt and rice milk shake-the banana will offset the taste of the greens. A veggie soup stock made with greens has lots of iron. Also, look into nutritional yeast-it has iron, protein, and B vitamins including B12. Make sure its nutritional yeast grown on molasses (another source of iron) and not bakers or brewers yeast. Hope this helps

When my boyfriend's 2 year old son comes to stay with us (every other weekend), I break up a granola bar into bite sized bits and cut up a banana into small pieces. I put those on a plate with a scoop of raisins. I put some "moo juice" (milk) in his sippy cup. He's a happy little camper. If you need to get more protein into his diet, you could include some peanut butter on toast (or even some celery if he'll eat it).

When all else fails, if you really can't get him to eat the things that he needs to get all his vitamins and minerals, you could ask your doctor about vitamins and such. I know that the people who make pedialyte (sp?) also make several products like granola bars and drinks (similar to boost or ensure) to help kids get all the minerals and vitamins they need.

1. 1/2 bagle with cream cheese

2. On the weekends, make dollar-sized pancakes with sausage and bacon for the week. Freeze first, then package & freeze individual servings for the week

3. Breakfast wraps (scrambled eggs + anything else he likes) in a tortia wrap.

4. Omlette guts (my daughter's favorite). Simply sautee'd peppers, onions and ham (can also use bacon or sausage). After cooked, melt some cheedar on top and serve with toast.

5. Fried tomatos - Slice, fry slow and season w/ salt, pepper and garlic. After a while, remove skins from pan, fry for another minute. Mash 'em up and serve with toast for dipping.

6. Poached eggs on toast

7. Eggs and soldiers

8. Breakfast tortia - make and have for dinner one night. Freeze indiviual portions for quick preparation.

2 kids - 7/9 - fussy eaters - wife works weekends - plenty of experience.

:)

cook him up some pancakes make sure he eats lots of fruit. And make sure he eats grain bread. Hope this works

a fruit smoothie...
almond milk, banana, and berries
or a trail mix...
mix raw nuts, raisins, and prunes

Try adding some Vegemite or Marmite on his toast. Both are high in iron.
Vegemite is milder than Marmite.
Try to get a small catering sample that is enough for a slice or two.

try giving him different kinds of soups, porridges and biscuits. Let him eat whatever he likes even from your plate.
