Vegan Snacks???!
Vegan Snacks???
so, yeah, im a vegan. the whole eighth grade is going on a trip to gettysburg, and we're told hat the food at the restaurants is nasty and that we should bring our own snacks. i was wondering if any of you knew of some good-tasting, vegan snacks...and not just like candy...but also like chips and stuff that atually has some carbohydrates/nutrients. thanks for your help!!

im a vegan too! yay!
I went on a trip just like this and i brough with me a buttload of rice-cakes (i like salted and the kettel corn flavor from Quaker), fritos, ruffles, dry cereal (cheerios, granola, etc), soy-milk juice boxes, trail mixes, instant soups (like "Annie Chun's" [i dont know if you know what they are but they are super tasty]), tea, larabars/luna bars/clif bars (i think like 99% of them are vegan), wheat thins, dried friut, ghiradellhi chocolate chips (so good, and yes, they are vegan!), ritz crackers, bag of bagels, and tortilla chips.
i know that this is alot, but be sure you bring alot becuase alot of those restaurants may only have a few options for you. Always remember if it is kind of a high end place, you can request the chef to make you something special if you just name a few ingredients you really like and a couple things you dont like!
I hope you have fun! Snack happy!
sun chips (Harvest chedder)
I know it sounds gross, but it's actually good. It's called Ants On a Log-celery with peanut butter and dried cherry raisins. Yums...
Take a trip to your whole foods store they have isles full of snacks you'll love. Have fun
i can't think of any specific brand, but i love snack mix with sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and dried peas. normally has sesame sticks or rice crackers in it too. most of the stuff i buy is from Target, and you'd have to read labels to make sure about it being vegan. also, dried fruit is always good. and peanut butter is good for a quick protein pick me up. you can buy it in tubes now, or just take a little cup of it (the plastic disposable type) with a spoon, or a bag of celery sticks.
Try roasted chickpeas! THey are easy to prepare yourself and make a great snack full of protein and low in fat.
You'll need:
1 can chickpeas, drained
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp garlic powder
Directions: Drain chickpeas. Pat with paper towel to absorb excess water. Spread on a cookie sheet and sprinkle the chickpeas with salt and garlic powder. Place cookie sheet in 300 F degree oven and let them roast for about 20 minutes. Turn/stir them and then roast another 20 minutes.
When they are done they will be crunchy and tasty. I call them "chick-nuts" because they are kind of like nuts but without all the fat. :)
You can also try experimenting with other seasonings. I've made curried chick-nuts, chili chick-nuts, etc.
bananas, apples, oranges, almonds, peanuts
fritoes are good! :D
check the link for a list. :]]
Harvest Cheddar Sun Chips aren't vegan last time I checked the ingredients. Go with a Cliff or Luna bar, they are nutritious and filling. Add a piece of fruit, or if you can keep it cold, a soy yogurt. Potato chips are a safe bet, as are corn chips. Make sure they're not cooked in animal fat. They're not nutritious though! You'd do well to bring fruit that won't bruise and get nasty, like citrus. If you're skipping meals, though... make sure you bring a snack with protein. Trail mixes are great suggestions too. Another good snack is Tofurkey jerky. High in sodium, but good for protein. Have fun!
Seeds, nuts, dried fruit, dark chocolate, popcorn...
Also plain tortilla chips (but make sure to check the ingredients; sometimes they add non-vegan flavouring)
Flapjack (vegan version) is tasty.
Fruit or nuts or make a combo and make trailmix with nuts, seeds and raisins.
