Vegetarian in progress.?!
Vegetarian in progress.?
First I wanna take this opportunity to thank those who answer my previous question of how to become vegetarian.
I have started giving up red meat. It’s not that difficult to do that actually. However I am having some difficult time to avoid chicken dishes. I like to eat chick sandwich, orange chicken, stuff like that.
So what can I do now? Any alternative food out there can replace chicken?
Answers:
OMG yes!
Morningstar farms makes yummy chicken patties, nuggets, strips that are substitutes for chicken.
They also make yummy hamburgers, fake ground meat.
Heres their site:

and Boca is another great brand of meat substitutes:
http://www.bocaburger.com/
They're both sold at regular groceries stores now!
check both sites out and see all that they have to offer!
Good Luck!

P.S. To Maureen: There isn't one kind of vegetarian, so you can't say someone isn't a "true vegetarian". You might want to consider researching to better educate yourself on the different types of vegetarians there are.
I might not like the idea of eating something that had parents, but I can eat something that tastes similar to it(actually it tastes better in my opinion) thats healthier and w/out any guilt.
I have a question for LIVIN3Ninos...If you are a vegetarian why do you want to eat Fake meat..A true vegetarian does not want any form of meat..I am not picking on you I am just wondering..And to Jason If you enjoy Chicken why do you want to become a Vegetarian..Again just wondering..Jason you might want to refer back to your hypocrite question...
Try Boca Brand Chicken Patties! They taste quite simaler to chicken (if not better) and is much healthier for you. Also try Morning Star, they have fake chicken strips that taste delicious in salad. Those are the only two I have tried just because they are at wal-mart which is only a couple of miles from my house =] hope this helps!
I'm what I call a semi-vegetarian. I eat chicken, but I'm real picky about where it came from - no antibiotics, no hormones, etc. I don't eat it very often, but when I do I don't feel bad about it. Depending on where you live it's not too hard to find and not much more expensive than 'regular' chicken. I also eat bison meat and other more natural meats on occasion.
i'm not a vegetarian, but i totally respect the choice, and understand the difficulties of eating a healthy diet. but i don't quite see the point in eating meat substitutes. add more vegetables and non-meat proteins to your daily diet, if you are getting plenty of protein, you may not crave chicken so much. for chinese food, tofu can replace chicken in most dishes. tofu is also a good source of protein, which is important to be a healthy vegetarian.
you have probably said previously why you want to become vegetarian, but if it is for health reasons, you can still eat meat products and maitain a healthy lifestyle. in anything, moderation and balance are key.
best of luck.
I'm vegan and my husband and I get fake chicken from the asian grocery near our house. I've cut it into cubes and made it into chicken salad with a soy based dressing over the top. I've also made orange and lemon chicken with fake chicken. With a lot of the wheat gluten meats out there you can adapt any recipe that you like.
Morningstar is great to replace "processed" chicken, like nuggets, patties, etc. They do have chic'n "strips" too, but I didn't care for them much.
The best "real" chicken replacement is Quorn (available at Safeway & Haggen in my area, plus my local co-op). It comes in a few varieties (naked cutlets, chunks, ground, patties). I usually use the naked cutlets - they're shaped like a boneless chicken breast. They slice up well for stir-fry, etc. and they also taste great grilled whole with various grilling sauces. They have a VERY chicken-like taste & texture. I've even cut it up for use in stews and it doesn't get soggy or anything like some of the other subs do.
no need to worry. as you continue to eat more fruits and vegetables, you will eat less and less chicken as time goes on.
Maureen, do you know how hard it is to be veg*n? It is extremely hard. Tofu is AwEsOmE!!!
Praise God that you are choosing this wiser route in health. Meat eating in any form is dangerous nowadays. Disease, chemicals and the such, are very rampant, whereas in the day of Jesus' first advent they were much healthier. A plant-based diet was the diet chosen for our first parents in the garden in Eden (read Gen 1 and 2). It was not until the flood came, that man was allowed to eat meat upon certain conditions, for you can not grow a garden in a flood (read Gen 7 and 9). Meat takes much longer to digest, thus greatly taxing the whole system and releasing toxins. Even fish and chicken contain much disease and fats that are not of the healthy variety. Only ignorance will tell us that a flesh-food diet is a wiser choice. My own personal testimony with choosing to be a true vegetarian is that I have so much more energy and feel so much better, as well, all with a greater conscience. Praise God, friend. Do not give up on it, look to Christ for the power to change your eating habits. You will not need substitutes for meat, in due time.
Have you tried quorn, it comes in all types of substitute meat. The texture is meaty but you have to add your own flavours, garlic and tomato etc.
yeah there is a bunch but most soy meat doesnt taste like the actual meat...or so ive been told saying as idont really remember what meat tastes like (going on 2 and a half years)) i reallyrecmendfor you to simply cut it off your list because for thelonger you remember how chicken tastes like the more difficult it will be to avod the real thing
Hi Jason,
You and I are in the same boat. I'm off beef, and working on easing away from chicken. It's hard, since chicken is everywhere. People seem to be in an illusion that chicken is so much healthier than beef, but it really isn't!
Let's visit a chicken farm together, see how the animals are treated, take a whiff of the nasty foul smell, have our lives threatened by the owners for seeing too much, vomit our guts out...
For now, you have to look the other way when you see the plate of orange chicken, and order the noodles. With tofu and broccoli. I like broccoli.
There are both physical(addictions) & mental cravings for flesh. Don't let those who point out IF you want to eat chicken you must not really want to be a "Veggie". The addiction of flesh is tough to beat, with time your taste buds will not want it. The mental is the other side of the coin.
When I "want" chicken I use a subsitiute like Boca. There is no shame, most of us were brought up to be addicted to these foods.
