May be going pescetarian?
I often find myself in situations where I really just don't feel like eating meat.I've thought about becomming a pescetarian (almost like a vegetarian, only you can eat fish and sea animals) it might be hard though. I'm not sure if I want to give up eating ham and chicken, but I guess it needs a lot of thought, which i have given some thought towards, but I just need opinions...

Like the others have said being Lacto-Ovo vegetarian isn't hard at all! There's lots of cruelty-free options available to replace animal foods and many restaurants offer vegetarian options.
The only important thing I'd like to add is that if you wish to start by stopping consumption of land animals and continue eating sea animals that's OK and a good start.
But PLEASE don't use that term that was made up to insult vegetarians!! All it serves to do is confuse omnivores that we eat dead sea animals. Please use the correct term listed below.

Vegetarians do not eat fish. A fish eater is a Piscivore. Spread the correct word!

I just became a vegetarian (Dec '06). I will admit that I do sometimes eat fish and sea food such as shrimp. I do not eat chicken, turkey, or pig. I have found that I feel better when I don't eat meat and save a few animals along the way. I would strongly recommend it. Good Luck! :)
I just recently decided to become a vegetarian. If you want get the book Slaughterhouse, it talks about the meat industry, graphic so be prepared, I've only read excerpts so far ( I just ordered it) and it's sickening, I wanted to vomit from reading the little bits I did. Buy books on vegetarianism and see what you think it may help influence your decision.
What is your defense for eating fish? Pain is not processed in the cerebral cortex, so the experience is just as acute for fish as it is for other animals, (including humans).
Be careful not to fall into another kind of speciesism, one that values an animals rights based solely on it's habitat.
I reccomend giving up meat altogether (not neccessarily all animal products, but just meat). This will help you stay on the right track (which won't be hard after a while, but might be at first). I've never heard the word pescetarian before, but it sounds like it would be easier to just give up all meat, so that you won't end up wanting to start eating it again. Once you become a vegetarian (and have been one for at least a couple weeks), you won't regret it! You will feel so much healthier and feel better about what you're putting into your body! Good luck!
it's not too hard, but remember, you're going to have to eat tofu so i hope you like it, also, it's good you'll eat fish, cause otherwise it would be harder to get protein (you might also consider eating poultry, or maybe just ocasionaly)
Pescetarian is a great choice if you like fish and don't mind eating it. I am a pescetarian and i love it. I get enough protein and eat lots of faux food like Tofurkey and Tofu. It shouldn't be too difficult if you already don't like eating meat.
Of course you can do it! Look at all of us vegans and vegetarians here. Most of us used to eat meat and had to change our diet.
Although I dont see the point of eating fish since it is meat,.. eating it also means supporting the overfishing of the seas, but that is your choice, of course. Your diet would still be a lot more compassionate than an omnivore′s.
Many people live perfectly well without ham and chicken which you like, and you can do it too if you really want to. Now when there is so much information out there about the subject, countless tasty recipes, meat substitues and what not... there′s really no excuse for not doing it , if you feel it is the right choice for you.
You can always test it for a few weaks and see how it goes, if you're unsure... It's not a cult, you can quit any time. ;)
Fish is meat. it isn't almost like a vegetarian. Vegetarians don't eat meat.
I was the same way...I didn't really want to eat meat per se, but I did so because I was raised the same way a lot of us are, which was in a family that always had some sort of meat as the entree for meals. Once I made a point not to eat it anymore, it was pretty easy. You might be surprised at how differently you feel physically, too. I used to feel so lethargic after meals, and now I don't unless I consume too much sugar.
Meat substitutes really helped me, too; I love Boca burgers and things of that nature. I've gotten so used to substitutes that I can't IMAGINE going back to eating the real thing.
The word is pesco-vegetarian. A pescetarian would be someone who ate fish and only fish.
Oh hunny! You make me laugh. There is no such thing as a pescetarian. If you don't want to give up ham and chicken, then give up red meat. You won't be a vegetarian no matter what you do until you give up eating all animals.
yea do it, but better yet be a vegan
A pescetarian is not any sort of vegetarian nor is it almost like a vegetarian.
