About red beats the veggie?

ive just ate some beats for dinner and couple hours later ive just noticed my stool looks like it has blood in it and also my urine is a little bit darker then normal ... is this from the red beats ??? they were boiled then mashed like potatoes ... it sorta got me worried

ive also been to the my family doctor recently and did a regular physical and some blood work and he said i was in perfect health, i dont feel sick nor ill

Yes, red beets (especially the fresh ones) will turn your excretions reddish. My dad once went running to his doctor saying he was bleeding anally only to find that the beets he'd just eaten for dinner were the culprits.

Yep, it should be. Though if it continues for too long, consult your physician.

It's cool, it's just the beets. Pretty funny. I panicked as a child when I had blue stools after some heavily coloured ice cream! I know it's a shock with the beets but the same thing has happened to me. They reason is that they are just so saturated with colour that your body can't filter it all out.

You'll be fine. And watch out for the green beer on St. Paddy's day. That can give you quite a shock the next morning when you're hungover.

Its perfectly normal for red beets to discolor your urine and stool. They are easily assimilated by the body, and go straight through your system. When I first started juicing 20 some odd years ago, the first time I juiced beets, it looked like I had bled into the toilet. In a panic, I called the poison control agency, and they said that is one of their most common questions!
