Just wondering, are vegans opposed to animal cruelty in cartoons?
just wondering, are vegans opposed to animal cruelty in cartoons? i can understand if they would be opposed to mistreatment of animals in non cartoon shows that people can see on tv, but like are they opposed to animal cruelty in cartoons? like in the flintstones, when various animals were being used as means of labor? like it's not real but are they opposed to that since it might promote and say "its ok to treat animals this way." just wondering...

I’m a vegan, but I can only answer for myself... The way I see it, cartoons and movies (and also other forms of art) are a reflection of our society, so there will be some details in there that indirectly show animals as their only purpose in life is to please humans. I don’t particularly mind movies/cartoons that show that indirectly, although the idea is wrong, it is not the movie itself that is wrong, but the society which it reflects.
But on the other hand, most violence in cartoons is between animals and it's so far from reality that I don’t mind it. (no one ever really dies) I enjoyed the Roadrunner, and Tom & Jerry when I was a kid.
When there is a question of animals vs humans, many cartoons like Bugs Bunny, Bambi and my favorite Chicken Run are in favor of animals. ( in Chicken Run, chickens are learning to fly so that they can escape from the evil farmer.)
In many ways cartoons have shown more compassion to animals by giving them personalities we can comprehend, and translating their individual wishes, joy and sadness into our own language. This is also the case with fables.
Like I said, there are details which I oppose to, like in Babe, farm animals don’t even question why they're owned by another species, (if anything they seem happy about it) even though they are given a language and human qualities. But again that is a reflection of the world we live in. Not many people question those things in reality.
haha what a funny question.. I kind of want to know that too.. I bet that it does bother them because it might influence kids to see animals as work objects.
Wow - I have never given that any thought and I have been vegetarian/vegan for 14 years.
I guess I am opposed to animal cruelty (or animal use by cartoon humans) since it just reinforces a child to see animals as beings that are property of (cartoon) humans.
It is really just a symptom of how all humans think of animals and how most people consider animals to be the property of humans.
I would rather help change society as a whole then target people who make the cartoons.
Interesting question...
um... not really, because the cartoons are made funny, which makes small children like animals.
Cartoons are make believe .. and no It does not bother me at all ....anymore then watching Popeye beat up Bluto .. you teach your children morals not TV or cartoons .. people who would blame cartoons for influencing a child or person is absurd .. and poor at parenting ...
