Just started being vegetarian, need some help!?!

Question:

Just started being vegetarian, need some help!?

i've just recently decided that im going to be vegetarian and i wanted to hear from some other vegetarians about what you eat and what you dont eat for example fish and geletin so that i can make my own decisions.

Answers:
People who eat fish and gelatine are not vegetarian. Fish is an animal that can feel pain, not a fruit; and gelatine comes from animal flesh. Vegetarians dont eat animals. People who say that they are vegetarians inspite of eating meat, dont know what theyre saying.

Vegans dont eat animals or any products that come from an animal, like milk, cheese, eggs, honey. They also don't wear leather or fur.

I tried to be as clear as possible.

Im a vegan.

Don't make any bets. I was a vegetarian once and I bet my brother 20 bucks I would stay a vegetarian. I lost 20 bucks.

i eat fish and gelatin.

Okay...

Lets talk about this at McDonald's, my treat...

Humans are animals, animals eat meat...

Well, I say eat whatever you want and be done with it. True vegetarians do not eat anything which has ever had a heartbeat, but please do what is healthiest for you. You NEED to make sure that you get enough protein or else you will screw up your blood sugar and probably gain a ton of weight in the end. Eggs, nuts, seeds, and many kinds of beans are all great sources of protein---use those in abundance, please.

The difference between vegan and vegetarian is that vegans do not eat ANYTHING which comes from animals----fish, butter, eggs, and so on. People who are just vegetarian can still eat those things and call themselves vegetarian.

well when your a vegetarian you are not suppose to eat eggs because they come from an animal a lot of vegetarians don't know this but it is true.

Tofu, Beans, the usual vegetarian stuff. Anyway, try Edamame, you can get it in the natural foods section in the freezer at a regular grocery market. Or if you go to a natural foods store, the clerk should know what it is. Anyway, they are soybeans in the pods. You microwave it to cook it and it's really Yummy!

You want people to tell you what to eat so you can make your own decisions. I'll have to ponder the logic of that for a while...

i am a vegetarian and i eat fish which is not uncommon. i do not eat gelatin. i eat a lot of cheese, and i also eat a lot of soy(fake meat). the best thing is to grill the veggie burgers with butter on both sides and a little seasoning salt.... yummy!! and you can make bbq with the steak strips and bbq sauce. it isnt really that much different. you can eat anything you want almost. and fish isnt hard to digest like red meat is. i choose not to eat chicken bc of all the hormones and stuff they put in it. i have been a veg head for 8 years. i hope this is useful.

well it certainly is a life change, try veggie patties there great and have lots of protein for ya.

i'm a vegetarian, and i dont eat meat, poultry, fish, or gelatin. however i do eat dairy and eggs.

It all depends on why you are being a vegetarian. Is it for health reasons? Then maybe you would eat everything but meat. You don't like the idea of eating anything that was once alive? So don't eat geletain or fish. If you want to be vegan (I'm not sure why people want to be vegan, so I can't give a motive here), you wouldn't eat eggs or dairy products either. You just think it's healthier? Tell yourself why you think it's healthier and you should have your answer about what to eat and what not to eat.

Im a vegetarian and personnaly i dont think that eating fish and gelatin ( and other stuff like that) is really ccorrect. i mean if your gonna be a vegetarian, be a good one!

Congrats on a great decision. Done right, a well balanced vegetarian diet can make you feel and look great. If you eat cheese, find brands that dont contain rennet, which comes from the 4th stomach of slaughtered male calves (veal) Cabot cheeses use vegetarian rennet, as do many others. Watch for gelatine in things you wouldnt expect to find it in, such as some yogurts and ice creams, pop tarts, etc. Read ingredient labels-if you dont know what something is, google it so you know if it came from animal sources. Watch for "enriched" cereals, pasta, rice, flours, etc., as the vitamins they enrich them with are most often from animal sources. Good luck on your journey-and its refreshing to hear someone say they want to make their own decisions-so many are worried about the "rules"l Have a great day!

Eat a variety of "whole foods," with plenty of beans, nuts, whole grains, fruits, and vegetables. Avoid unhealthy foods like trans fats, which are usually listed as partially hydrogenated oils. Deep-fried foods often contain trans fats. Choose margarines that use nonhydrogenated oil, like Earth Balance or Smart Balance. Although a diet consisting of Coke and French fries is technically vegan, you can't be healthy if you eat nothing but junk food. Vitamin B12: Vitamin B12 is produced by bacteria, and some experts believe that vegetarians used to get plenty of this vitamin from bacteria in drinking water. Since drinking water is now treated with chemicals that kill the bacteria, it's important to make sure that you get enough vitamin B12 from fortified foods (like most brands of soy or rice milks, some breakfast cereals, and many brands of nutritional yeast, also eggs and milk) on a daily basis or by taking a sublingual B12 tablet of 10 mcg per day

Iron-beans, dark green leafy vegetables (like spinach),whole grain breads, Also eat something with vitamin c when you eat something with iron, it increases absorption

Calcium-dark green leafy vegetables (spinach, broccoli, soymilk)

Protein-Isn't really hard to get, just eat a variety of foods, good sources are beans, brown rice, nuts, whole grain breads, soy foods

Omega-3 fatty acids-flax seeds/oil,walnuts,canola oil

Zinc-pumpkin seeds (best source), beans and lentils, yeast, nuts, seeds and whole grain cereals

Selenium-Brazil nuts are a particularly good source of selenium, so try to eat a couple every day. Eating a small bag of mixed unsalted nuts can be a convenient way to get your daily selenium intake, but make sure it contains Brazils. Bread and eggs also provide some selenium.

Vitamin D- Vitamin D, often called the sunshine vitamin, is another common deficiency in those not drinking vitamin D fortified milk. Synthetic vitamin D is added to both cow’s milk and most brands of soy milk today.

Vitamins A (beta carotene),C, K, E and Folate-variety of fruits and veggies

Iodine-Iodine is a trace mineral that's important for healthy thyroid function. Table salt is the most common and reliable source of iodine in Americans' diets. (However, sodium in processed foods usually does not contain iodine.) If you don't consume table salt, you can get iodine from a multivitamin or from kelp tablets.
