Drug animal testing flaw?!
Drug animal testing flaw?
I'm not an activist or anything but isn't it almost ...I don't know....counterintuitive when we test all sorts of drugs on animals thinking they will have the same affect on humans?
This happened in the past with thalidomide, Cylert and alot of other substances that were harmless in the lab animals. It's happening now and there are all these recalls on drugs deemed safe by the FDA. Do you think tha maybe..just maybe they know this is the case but they allow it anyway because SOMEONE has to be the first human guinea pig no matter how many actual guinea pigs you test it on. I mean..if rats were like humans then they wouldn't be rats they'd be human right?
Does anyone else see this flawed logic?

Thanks to tissue culture technology there is NO real reason to test on animals anymore! Well, there is one reason...
It's cheaper than tissue culturing and all the companies that make a fortune on supplying animals for testing would lose money.
Besides tissue culture technology, there's also available computer simulation technology that works just as well as the software used to design new jets, bridges, buildings etc. Any company could use the software and then follow up with tissue cultures and get better data than they do from animal experiments. It'd just cost more!!
BTW; you *almost* hit on the real problem with the FDA!
By law companies have to get approval from the FDA before marketing their product. Once the FDA approves the product the company is largely off the hook for problems with the products.
Here's the kicker...
The FDA *must* accept the data provided by the company *and* must give precedence to the data provided by the company when they decide to approve the product!
The system has been automatically weighted in favor of the company. And for the last few years we have political officers that only allow the public to see what the executive branch of government wants us to see!

yes it is flawed. but i think the main reason they use animals is like let's say they want to test a new product for the face and test it on animals. if it burns the animals face, then they know it's not safe. i'd rather they test on animals than humans because what if it burns human flesh off?
i definitely agree with you. I dont know enough information on the subject in terms of medical advances, alot of people insist that if it will help save a humans life than it is necessary or i have often heard criticism that some of us protest animal testings yet we would not refuse treatment if we were dying and needed it assuming the treatment had been tested on animals. This troubles me because although I go out of my way as much as I can to buy products that havent been tested on animals I have never actually seen/heard of medicine that has specifically never been tested on animals and I dont know if i would refuse treatment if necessary. What I would like to know is why some companies test shampoos, toothpastes, soaps on animals (like dove for example. dove is not a product that you can be sure isnt tested on animals) but i buy all of my soaps, deodarents, toothpaste that hasnt been tested on animals so why cant all other companies be the same. My question is do these companies like procter and gamble who are known for not being cruelty free test all products on animals or just some like maxi pads or listerine? I am not sure i would really like to know. I know shampoo doesnt need to be tested on animals because I buy shampoo that isnt so is all shampoo not tested or do some companies still do so and if so why??
Good Question!!
-95% of drugs passed by animal tests are immediately discarded as useless or dangerous to humans.
-Up to 90% of animal test results are discarded as they are inapplicable to man.
-88% of stillbirths are caused by drugs which are passed as being safe in animal tests, according to a study in Germany.
-61% of birth defects are caused by drugs passed safe in animal tests, according to the same study. Defect rates are 200 times post war levels.
-One in six patients in hospital are there because of a treatment they have taken.
-In America, 100,000 deaths a year are attributed to medical treatment. In one year 1.5 million people were hospitalised by medical treatment.
@Bachii,They can and have made synthetic human skin.
Ask the experimenters why they experiment on animals, and the answer is: 'Because the animals are like us.' Ask the experimenters why it is morally OK to experiment on animals, and the answer is: 'Because the animals are not like us.' Animal experimentation rests on a logical contradiction.
