If i ate a little fish yesterday, am i still a vegetarian?
Answers:
If you define yourself as a vegetarian and try your best to be one, then one little fall off the wagon does not change that. It is much like if you were on a diet and had a slice of chocolate cake--you can still be on the diet but "slipped once." However, if you consistently consume fish or other animal flesh, you are not a "vegetarian" by definition since vegetarians do not consume animal flesh by definition.
Those who argue that all the vegetarians they know consume animal flesh in some circumstance do not really know any vegetarians. There are a lot of people who call themselves vegetarians because they are cutting down on meat or are not eating red meat or only eat fish, etc. Although they are nudging in the vegetarian direction, they are not actually vegetarians. I find it amusing how someone will say "I am a vegetarian, I only eat chicken (or fish)," as if chickens or fish were not animals but had roots and leaves! If one is eating any member of the animal kingdom (from clam to cow) one is not eating a vegetable. In no other other category that I know of is a term so widely abused and misapplied as "vegetarian."
People who eat a little meat and call themselves vegetarians are either misunderstanding the term or are deceiving themselves. Vegetarians (regardless of ovo, lacto, ovo-lacto, and vegan categories--) don't consume ANY meat . Period. It's really obvious if you look at the word or know any true vegetarians or understand its deep and rich history. I have been a vegetarian for over thirty years.
How little was the fish?
But seriously, you are a vegetarian if you've decided to not eat the flesh of animals. Some definitions of that are so broad as to include people who eat fish. But it really depends on what you're going to do. Are you going to go all out and eat all kinds of meat or fish now that you've 'fallen off the wagon?'
Most vegetarians I know weren't raised vegetarians, so they ate meat while growing up. They don't call themselves 'reformed carnivores' or anything like that, they call themselves vegetarians, because they try to follow a diet that excludes the flesh of animals. I know people who call themselves 'vegetarians who eat meat when it is served,' so they eat meat or fish every so often, infrequently.
If you are remorseful about eating the fish, you could try to pray or make an offering of fresh herbs to the nearest sea, lake or stream, if you fancy either of those ideas. Or you could simply call it a misstep and carry on with being a vegetarian. Only you can decide whether you want to continue on in that path. If you do want to continue being a vegetarian, then, yes, you are still a vegetarian.
I know plenty of people who consider themselves vegetarians that eat the occasion white meat (i.e chicken and fish). Actually thinking about it I don't know a single vegetarian who doesn't eat a bit of fish or chicken every now and then (once every few months).
It's all up to you.
People can judge you for eating a little fish but atleast it wasn't a lot.
Personally it's up to you what you eat / don't eat.
If you enjoy fish then just be someone who doesn't eat red meat.
No definitely not! Eating the flesh of any animal, including fish and chicken makes you a non-vegetarian. If you don't eat any meat, but consume dairy, that would make you a lacto vegetarian. If you don't eat meat, but eat eggs and dairy, then you would be a lacto-ovo vegetarian. Ovo vegetarianism means no meat and dairy but you eat eggs. A vegan doesn't eat any form of meat or animal products, including dairy, eggs and honey.
Don't listen to the extreme coments. There is a term called pesco vegetarian, if you choose to remain a fish eater. Otherwise, you are fine, you have done your part and continue doing it. If you eat a piece of fish now and then, you are still a vegetarian. Its jus tlike saying if a vegan eats microwavable popcorn that has milk in it (yeah, they do for some reason) without knowing, they are still vegan. I comend you for not eating meat this far, one slip up will not chang ewhat you have decided to be :)
Not for that day.
But you must have wanted it.. or you wouldn't have eaten it.
I think that a vegetarian diet is probably one of the best, however as with any diet it is your choice. See how you feel and you will no doubt be able to determine if that is going to be your life choice.
I would say it depends. If you did it on purpose..then no. Being vegetarian is a commited lifestyle.
If you eat killed thing you are not veg. Egg is not veg because it is produced as a result of cohabitation. Don't kill any one to eat.
Yes, you just were not yesterday. Is a Christian still a Christian if they commit a sin?
you could now just consider yourself a pesco-vegetarian. (of course, more "true" vegetarians don't think any meat-eating should accompany the term 'vegetarian'.)
If you knew you were eating the fish then personally you just went against all your beliefs. If you didn't then yeah you're still a vegetarian.
And...
THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A PESCOTARIAN!
You're either a vegetarian who doesn't eat animals (fish and chicken included).
A vegetarian who doesn't consume eggs and/or dairy
or a vegan.
Get it straight!!!!!!!!!!
If you did it on purpose, then I would say that you choose not to be a vegetarian anymore... you can choose to become a vegetarian again, as long as you decide not to eat fish anymore...
I am sorry but eating the meat/ fats of any animal makes you a non-veg. You realize that there would have been one fish alive if your cravings hadn't taken over? Eating a "little" fish is still killing an innocent living being...
