What is your definition of a vegetarian?!

Question:

What is your definition of a vegetarian?

mine is "a vegetarian is someone who wouldn't eat anything that has had a mother" does anyone have anything different?

Answers:
Someone who doesn`t eat anything with a face.

That about sums it up...but aren't vegans supposed to be the 'true' vegetarians?

There are different levels of vegetarianism

There's Lacto-ovo vegetarian. One who doesn't eat any animal products or fish, but eats milk and eggs.
There's Lacto vegetarian. One who doesn't eat any animal, animal products, fish or eggs.
There's Vegan, on who doesn't eat anything coming from an animal or fish. No honey, dairy or eggs.

None eat fish, none eat animal by products such as gelatin.

someone who doesn't eat meat or products that contain animal byproducts. the definition of meat gets tricky. is fish a meat? what about clams? would a vegetarian eat a chocolate covered ant?

always: no red meat.
sometimes: fish, or even poultry

yes mine is also something that hasnt had a mother, something with a heart

Won't eat anything with eyes. (Except potatoes)

Is a mouldy tomato OK then .x

Someone who doesn't eat animals, but I can't use that one much because people think I still eat fish. Last time I checked, a fish is an animal!

A nice person who excludes meat and fish (and in the case of vegans, eggs, milk and cheese) from their diet for ethnical, environmental and/or nutritional reasons.

Simple...someone who does not eat the flesh or by products of a dead animal.

For me..I don't eat anything with face.

i've been a vegetarian for 30 years since i was 5 and you are correct. if i'm asked i always say if it had a mum i don't eat it.
vegans are a separate group to vegetarians.
people really wind me up when they say 'i'm a vegetarian but i eat fish' YOU NOT A BLOODY VEGETARIAN THEN is my calm response! they are in fact a pescarian. (technical bit)
and for those who say'i'm a vegetarian but i eat chicken' well they just deserve a big slap. it's like me saying i'm a deep sea diver but i don't swim!

Someone who cares for other living beings and the health of their bodies! Someone who is considerate and doesn't murder others for their own sake! and don't eat anything with a mind of it's own.

A vegetarian does not eat any part of an animal, including fish.

Yeah that's good.

I am vegan now but when I was vegetarian I used a similar 1-'I don't eat anything that had parents'

This is why the people who say they are vegetarians but they eat fish make me mad-NEWSFLASH: The fish had parents so it's an animal!!!

hmmm doesnt eat with face.

Nobody seems to have mentioned other aspects of vegetarianism, like not wearing leather or choosing cosmetics etc. not tested on animals.
Its a difficult thing to be though because so many drugs, most of which have no alternatives already have been and still are being tested on animals.
And unfortunately, "preachy" vegetarians make it harder to be accepted for those of us who want to make a difference ourselves but respect others' freedom of choice.
My inlaws knowlingly fed my child chips cooked in Beef dripping at the seaside the other day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

i don't invent my own definition. where would the world be if we all invented our own definitions for words ?

Use the proper one:

"A vegetarian is someone who does not eat meat, fish, poultry or slaughter by-products"

So simple., and its been that way for 120 years. No clue why the internet has suddenly produced a ton of people who make up thier own versions.
