Vegetarian selection?!

Question:

Vegetarian selection?

Please help I am wanting some ideas about vegegetarian finger food to put on a buffet.

Answers:
mushroom vol au vents are a nice easy one as you can buy the cases frozen and cook them. take some mushrooms and chop, microwave with a little butter until soft. let them cool and put in a blender with some soft cheese (like philadelphia). blitz it all up and there you have your filling!

cheese and marmite whirls - roll out some puff pastry, put some marmite in a mug and add a tiny bit of boiling water to make it easy to spread all over the pastry. cover the marmite and pastry with grated cheddar. roll up like you would sausage rolls, into small rolls and cut into bite size pieces. cook!

also lots of vegetables and dips, indian snacks like onion bhajis, vegetable pakoras, spring rolls; open egg rolls (egg mayonaise on long finger rolls cut in half length ways then width ways making four), gherkins, quiche, cheese finger sandwiches are always a good staple too!

You can get lots of veggie versions of "normal" food, so veggie "sausages" etc, plus indian mini snacks like pakoras, onion bajiis etc are really nice for all guests for a buffet. Making myself hungry just thinking about it!!

whats the occasion?
What non-veg food are you serving?

You could have spring rolls, sushi, curry puffs, quiche, veggie kabobs, things on crackers, gourmet sanwiches...

does that help?

how about... slow roasted tomato and caramelised onion tarts. should make 4
Just core and 2 1/2 tomatoes and stick em on a cake rack. season and drizzle with a little olive oil andmscatter some thyme on them. bake in a 140degree celcious oven until they start to dry a little (approx 20 minutes)
Finely slice 3 large onions, stick em in a pot on a med-low heat with a splash of olive oil and stir occasionally until they go all soft caramel in colour. this will take at least twenty minutes (they should not be frying or sizzling lots at all).
Whack a piece of puff pastry (cut to size of you tomato) in the oven to until lightly golden, top with onions and then tomato. Some crumbled fetta on top is nice too.

Indian appetizers - samosa, pakora, nans, parathas,
Veggies with dips - hummus, and others
Spread hummus on small triangles of pita or wedges of red pepper.
Tempura, stuffed grape leaves.

Stuffed mushrooms - always a hit.

fake meats offer other options, but many of your guests might be turned off by them.

How about some vegetarian sushi? Just roll up some cucumber, avacado, and radish and seasoned rice in some nori sheets. Serve with wasabi sauce. You could also do veggie kebabs with bbq sauce. Just thread some lighly steamed new potato, zuchini, pearl onion, yellow squash, etc on wooden skewers and grill or broil them. Potato puffs, breaded mushrooms and okra, fruit kebabs with yogurt dipping sauce, spinach and feta in phylo dough parcels, and endive leaves stuffed with shredded veggies. Stuffed mushrooms, stuffed cherry tomatoes, grilled fresh pineapple and celery stuffed with homemade pimento cheese, are just a few ideas.

Some fresh vegetables with dip, tofu fingers, cheese picks, chips?

I like neoppolitan puffs.

Basically small squares of puff pastry with a layer of Pasata, some garlic, mozzerella cheese and basil - all baked till cooked.

rissotto balls are good to. just make mushroom/tomoato or pea rissotto, let cool, roll up into the size of a ping pong ball. push a little mozzerrella cheese into the middle. Roll in breadcrumbs and deep fry till golden.

Tender asparagus spears wrapped in thin, crustless buttered brown bread. This is much nicer than it sounds !

when in doubt.....always serve humus with pita and various other dipping food(cucumbers etc....)......another would be good guacamole and salsa with organic chips......little sandwhiches with roasted red peppers, onions, tomatoes, and raw sprouts....if not vegan add a small piece of fresh mozzarella......definately hummus and guacamole....
