How do I not eat meat?!
How do I not eat meat?
Ok, I won't be a vegan, but I'd like to be a vegetarian (milk/egg/fish), or at least with as little meat intake as possible. It seems easy if I cook myself, but it is so hard if going to restaurants. I'm not a salad person. And most veggies dishes (if you can find any) are just drenched with oil. You can only take so many veggie burgers. I love veggies, but can't seem to find good tasting and ones prepared in a healthier way at restaurants. What do you do?

In the strict sense, to me, vegetarian is really vegan, I don't know why we include animals products in the diet of a "vegetarian". I'm only using it in a general sense here since that's how people generally use the term (unfortunately).

Try to start out by just quitting red meat. Eat chicken and fish, that's always a good start. That way you won't get so burned out on the veggies. :)
Not go to restaurants? Go to Japanese restaurants, they're food rarely has meat other then fish.. Or just cook your own food..
I eat at home before going out to a restaurant. That way I can munch on something without making a meal of it and can therefore control what I eat. Or you can just ask the waiter to tell the chef to make something specific because of your lifestyle choices.
It is not easy to be a vegatarian because it is not natural. There is a reason chicken and steak tastes soooo good.
avoid restaurants. unless they specialize in health foods, most restaurants will range from junk food (fast food) to unhealthy (transfats and msg). Try to find a restaurant that serves 'organic' food.
looks like you are gonna have to eat at home and find something else to do besides eating out. Maybe you can find a group of people in your town that have mastered the no-meat lifestyle. They should have some good insite.
I am a vegetarian and these websites are nice...

And there is also a Betty Crocker veggie cookbook that is REALLY good. Do not worry. Once you start becoming a vegetarian for longer periods of time and you get used to vegetarian recipes and not eating meat, you will not even want meat anymore. Be creative with your choices!!! And good luck!
Signed, a vegetarian of 1/3 of her life!!!
P.S. Mexican restaurants have great vegetarian choices
and so does Noodles and Company (yum yum!!!) http://noodlesandcompany.com
i agree w/ the person who said to stop eating red meat first. That's what i did and it worked. Good idea to go veggie. Did you know Avril Lavinie is a hard core vegan!!! She is a hot role model. Try to look up to her if you find you want to eat meat again. Being a vegan is hard especially if you are allergic to peanuts like me. i suggest finding your fave nuts if you are going to go veggie then gradually ease away from dairy, fish, and other meats. getting Organic milk is a good idea. The same w/ tofu cheese. There are even eggs you can get that are not cruel to animals as they are taken. Good Luck!!!
Well, find restaraunts that carry your taste in food (the Olive Garden has many vegetarian recipes), or just continue to cook yourself. Eat some meat, then cut down, then further, then further, until you aren't eating any meat. Internet resources can help you find veg. restaraunts in your city.
hun if you eat fish your a pescivore, not a vegetarian. there is a book called vegan italiano. its prettty awesome :) so is a book called how it all vegan. try em out, even if you only want to be a vegetarian.
do not open your mouth a shove it in.
I really agree with the person who suggested Japanese restaurants! My sister is a vegetarian and she has plenty of choices there. There is lots of substututes such as tofu and if your still eating fish you'll find plenty of that there! plus it delicious!
Pick up a vegetarian cookbook and try new things! There are many ways to prepare things that were not once a living breathing feeling creature. As for restraunts suggest the next time you go out with someone to try a vegetarian restraunt. If they (whoever you're eating with) have a problem with that then maybe invite them over you're house to eat. If you have to eat at a restraunt look at their menus online or call them before-hand about their vegetarian options. That way you can suggest to go to a restraunt that will work for you.
~One thing that I would like to point out though- If you eat any kind of meat you are not a vegitarian. (That includes fish) And there is no such thing as semi-vegetarian. You either eat meat or you don't. But if you are cutting most meat from your diet good for you : )
Yeah eating out at a regular restaurant is a bummer, I don't no what to tell you... maybe order steamed veggies.
Honestly, I just answered to tell you that someone that eats fish is NOT a vegetarian.
I don't care what you eat, just don't call yourself a vegetarian, If you eat fish.
For going out to dinner I usually eat a nice pasta, and some vegetables. Try fajitas they are usually healthy and aren't too oily.
For at home:
. I usually eat a product called "Zogolos", it's hard to find but the company creates fake meat products that contain all the nutrients that you need (including iron and protein). You can check here http://www.zoglos.com/ for more information on the products and their ingredients.
Another great product you might like to check out are "Yves Veggie Products". They are similar to Zogolos but I think they have more choices, and I can fully recommend them as tasting great. Here is their website
