What do vegans use to replace yogurt / cheese / eggs?
I just can't imagine not eating a yogurt / cheese after my lunch although I would certainly be prepared to if I could easily replace it with something. I eat plenty of fruit so it needs to be something other than that! What do you eat to finish off your meal? Eggs are not such a big deal for me, I don't eat them very often but what do you use as a substitute when cooking?

I should have added that I live in France and since living here I have eaten cheese/yogurt after lunch because it's always put on the table after a meal and its such an easy way of ending a meal. When I lived in the UK I was a lot less healthy and would eat chocolate or cake after a meal!

Oh dear...I forgot to mention that there is hardly anything on offer in France for vegetarians let alone vegans, in fact I'm not sure many people have even heard of the idea of not eating dairy! We have managed to find a supermarket which sells tofu but you don't get a lot for your money. Fortunatly we can buy soya milk now a days but it costs much more. I think I'll have to wait for this country to catch up with the UK and maybe then more will be on offer for the likes of difficult me!

Is there a limit to how many details I can add! I would never try to push my ideas at anyone, that's why my question is listed in the vegetarian/vegan section. Do you know a cow can live up to 20 years but with the drugs and constant milking, no sunshine or natural foods and cow will live for roughly four years. Can you be sure of the quality of life of the chickens who lay your eggs, most are so kept up they are pecking at eachother. Did you even read the question properly? I have only been vegetarian about 6 weeks, it's the best thing I ever did and if you would care/dare to watch this video then I have no other need to explain my reasons why...

Just ignore the idiots who have nothing better to do. Just focus on us fellow vegs and our hopefully helpful answers!
You can use 1/2 banana for each egg called for in a recipe. Obviously this would not work in a custard, but it works really well in cookies, cakes, etc. Sweet things that are entirely based on eggs! I use bananas that are starting to go soft, but aren't completely brown.
While I haven't found a good "fake" cheese, I feel your pain. I do like making macaroni and cheese, subbing nutritional yeast flakes (totally different from regular yeast!!) with a little soy or rice milk, a bit of mustard, and some paprika and salt. Sooo good and creamy! Does it taste just like cheese? No. But does it satisfy this southern girl's desire for cheesy deliciousness (using less milk, you can make a stretchy pizza topping)? Absolutely.
You may want to explore online food shopping as well. I can order many specialty things, and generally since I only need two or three orders a year, the cost isn't bad. I'm sure there are UK ones, no doubt there are ones for you as well, but you may have to sniff them out.
Good on you for pursuing a more enviromentally concious lifestyle. The good feeling you get from doing something for yourself and for animals and the earth will no doubt far outweigh any stupid comments you might receive. ;)
(P.S. I like Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World for vegan baking. Very few call for "special" ingredients.)

Ive never eaten yoghurt or cheese to finish off a meal anyway so I wouldnt miss it.
I am sure not everyone does this.
you could replace cheese with hoummous although I can;t think of anything worse tahn being vegan, I love my cheese and milk, all the rice and soy ones taste terrible.
You can buy Yoghurt and cheese made from soya milk. Not sure how u could replace eggs.
They use a lot of tofu, soy and flax seed products. I can't imagine the end product tasting very good, but I think they'd be more concerned with the proper consistency and structure of the prepared food. For example, in baking it's vital to have a cake, dessert, etc. end up with the proper form and without the right replacement foods it would probably come out flat and dry.
Sperm;) LOL just kidding, tofu and soybean milk are most often used as substitutes for proteins and calcium...
As a former vegetarian. You don't miss it because its not part of your diet. Half of my family are STRICT vegetarians and vegans. We usually had scrambled tofu, which tastes like whatever you want it to. I still don't eat cheese. Yogurt is eh, but as far as milk and dairy, I eat soy.
I am not sure but those items do not hurt animals. If you licked animals for a source of salt would that classify you as a non-vegan? Could wild animals like sharks, lions, wolves, bears be converted to vegetarians??? Then why would you expect all humans to be able to convert???
A WHOLE LOTTA ONIONS!
One can opt for the soya version. Soya milk , cheese made out of soya etc...
All right. So you live in France now. Not the most vegetarian friendly place in the world but being vegetarian there in far from being impossible and I am sure that many other people are leading this lifestyle. Some people at the supermarket don't even know want tofu is. I know that country very well.
First of all when it comes to yogurt, Sojasun offers a great variety of soy products that rock: yogurt and pudding (great to finish off your meal) that you can find at any supermarket. Soy milk is all over the place too. They have an amazing chain of health food stores called Naturalia. Check them out in the phone book. You can find all you want there. Their tofu is out of this world. You can find Quinoa.... I am not sure about soy cheese but they might have some. I am not sure where you live in France. Off course if you are in a small town it would be harder.
When you go to regular supermarkets, go to the bio section and the diet section. It just takes an effort to do your research when you go to a new country.
This is a great website to locate veggie friendly places around the world:

Good luck
Try some olive oil but really you shuold be looking for protein like beans.
There really into beans in France. You shouldn't have any trouble finding a selection and they can be so nice with French salad dressing i.e. 2parts oil, 1part vinegar (or lime or lemon juice), salt, garlic, and mustard (Moutarde de Dijon). Lentils are big in France.
Artichokes you may discover commonly available pickled if not fresh. Cook and eat with mayonnaise oh but that is made with egg yolk. Oh well "C'est la vie!"
You can replace milk products with soy products. Soy milk, soy cheese (tofu and others), Soy yogurt. Soy is pretty much made into everything that is like milk products and tastes not too bad. In fact it has much less satured fat,...
You can replace eggs with EnerG Eggreplacer or flaxseed.
vegans generaly use tofu as a replacement for a lot of things not only can you eat it raw but should you want to fry it you can marinate it with sauces of your choice soya based dressing/marinades usually work best. It′s fairly healthy too.
Hi ! Instead of yoghurt you can buy soya yoghurt. There are cheese substitutes made by the Redwood food co and also Tofutti cheezez and rice cheese. Eggs can be replaced with White vinegar, apple juice apple puree enrg egg replacer linseed (flax) oil in baking. My pal Green ghost knows how to make a convincing boiled egg substitute!!
I don't know which of these things you can buy in France.
Have just been to Carrefoure's online shop it is called ooshop.com. They have soya yoghurts!! I'm going to check a couple more options out !
I have been looking at Leclerc's on line shop .They have a cute website but I went into the kitchen of the house and found no products and no recipies when I did a search for vegetarian. I thought England was bad ! There isn't even a Channel Islands version of Holland and Barrett .
Hey!! You and I should go in to Partnership and have the first franchise of Holland and Barrett in France or set up our own health food store (someday) .
It is a win - win situation!!
Well before I was a Vegan, I loved cheese and yogurt. It kinda sucks that you can't get vegan stuff where you live. Cause I know that Silk(soymilk) mays really good soy yogurt, I have never tried any other kinds of vegan yogurt, but Silk is really good(But I don't think they sell it there).
And I have never tried it, but I have heard that Tofutti makes good vegan cheese. I don't know if they will have that stuff where you live though.
Also you can use tofu as a substitute for eggs in baking, like maybe 1/4 cup tofu for every egg (I don't know if that is the best equivelent, but that is what I use.)
Also You can use a banana, or even apple sauce instead of eggs(not sure what the correct measurments are)
I think one banana for each egg, I dont know about the applesauce.
As far as soymilk, I've seen alot of people recomend buying a soymilk maker, they say you can make it for $.30(USD I guess, Sorry) a gallon. And that is pretty cheap, I personally don't have one, but the next $100 I get I might be using to invest in a soymilk maker.

Yogurt: Soy yogurt, cocunut kefir (kefir is a cultured food very much like yogurt, see note below)
Cheese: soy cheese, rice cheese, yogurt cheese (made by using a strainer and a cheesecloth, pouring the yogurt through and letting the water seep out. it comes out kind of lumpy but it is great in salads and you can mix herbs into it and use it for a veggie dip)
Eggs: as far as baking you can try "egg substitute" from EnerG foods (brand name) you can find it in most health-food stores and on the internet. I heard it can be used in pudding-like recipes as well with soy milk. It might need some trial and error first. Some people make tofu scrambles that are quite tasty.
Besides the link that DesertRose gave you; and the boatload of links Mevlana gave you try this one:
http://www.ivu.org
and search for what's available in France. The veggie groups there should have some good suggestions for what's available in your part of France.
I also like Andilep's suggestion to use the chunnel and shop UK (if that's practical for you).
you can eat soya yogurt's and soya cheese. trust me they do taste good,it can be trial and error until you find the products that you like.eggs as far as i'm aware there is no substitute.
