You can use ginger in cooking if the recipe asks for it just by pealing of the skin, chop it small or grate it. But when it comes to pickled ginger I think it is really wise to just buy it at the supermarket. In case you want to do it yourself here is a recipe:

Well if you are cooking it just peel it and mince it up with a knife, and cook it like garlic. If you mean the kind of ginger you get with sushi, you have to slice it and pickle it i think. I dont really eat sushi.
If you're talking about pickled ginger, it's easier just to buy it, with no difference in quality.
bring her flowers and take her to a nice restaurant.
Peel off the bark. Then mince the hole thing, store in a jar in the fridge.
To use for cooking-it is a strong flavor use a small amount in dishes either in the begining of cooking or end depending on how strong.
Yes, chop it fine, steam it or mince it. Start the harder root vegetables, like carrots first, softer stuff like bean sprouts would go in last.
You don't want to overdo the ginger though, it can over power everything.
One of my favorite teas to make is ginger root and licorice root. You can get the licorice root in bulk at most health food stores. It has a good flavour as your know, but is also sweet and goes real well with the ginger. It is much better to simmer it for about 10-15 min. and then let it sit over night.
I don't measure though. I would say 1/4 cup of each (maybe a little more) in a medium pot of water. If you give this a shot, just remember if it was too strong or not for next time.
300grms ginger, 2 litr water 1/2 kilo suger 4 lemons put the lemon and gingerin blender, put in a saucpan and bring to the boil, simmer for 10 minuts and leave to cool, ginger beer
