Sore throat from spinach pesticides?!
Sore throat from spinach pesticides?
I have been eating raw spinach for three days. I have been washing the spinash very well, soaking it in water for 20 minutes and then re-washing it again. Im a little paranoid with all the news about pesticides and stuff.
Then thing is a have a minor sore throat and I don't know from what. Could it be the pesticides in spinach? How can I was the spinach to remove all pesticides?
Answers:
Actually, its from phytic acid... or maybe it beautric acid, point is you have to steam it to nuetralize the acid. It is not from pesticides. Look it up on the internet
I would soak it in less than cold water that has had a safe detergent added- like a drop- swish it around and then rinse under running water for a couple of minutes. If it feels "unslimey" to the touch you have removed all residue. Drink plenty of fluids and that should wash just about anything out of your system. I get that "sore throat" just agonizing and anticipating food problems. Deep breathing helps. Remember your brain is thinking even when you don't think it is- if you know what I mean.
Yes, it could be the pesticides. You cant remove them even with thorough washing, as they absorb some of them as they grow. Try organic-which is grown without pesticides. Spinach is high in amines, which can cause the body to release histamine-which could also be causing your sore throat. If you are sensitive to amines, it could effect you that way. Lay off of it for a few days. Try some juiced carrots to help you heal. Alternately, it could be just a good old fashioned sore throat. The only way to know is if it happens again next time you eat spinach-it can take up to 36 hours after eating it before you show signs of a reaction. I adore spinach, but had to give it up recently because it was causing too many issues. Feel better soon!
