To the people criticizing us vegans for being hyporcritical for eating yeast and not honey, milk, meat, etc.-- maybe you should do two minutes of research on something you know nothing about before you make yourselves look stupid, yeast is not an animal, it is a fungi. Eating yeast is like eating a mushroom. Sure it's alive, but vegans don't have anything against eating living things, they are against eating (and some take it furthur than diet) animal flesh, and any product involved in the exploitation of animals (such as milk, eggs, or honey). Reasons may vary, but that's basically it. Yeast is not an animal.
To the person who asked the question, sure, go ahead and try nutritional yeast. I'm not that crazy about it, but it's alright oncein a while. You could use it for rice dished, pizza, maybe quinoa, maybe soup.... it has sort of a taste and texture comparable to cheese.
I think you can do it
Uhhh
I have a book that says something about it
Grr I have to find it
I'll edit this answer and tell you in a little bit
P.S. I'm a vegan too!
My vegan friend threw up from broth.
Because it "might have had chicken" in it.
IF you through up from BROTH!!!!!
........................omg......
.
Seems pretty non-vegan to me. Yeast is alive. You can't eat honey but you can eat yeast?
PS. you have canines for a reason. we're omnivores.
Yeast is a living animal. If you're a tree hugging environmental whaco fruit you should not be eating yeast. How can you eat one animal and not the others? Yeast or beast it's still life.
Sorry you got so many boneheaded responses from clueless idiots. Yes, nutritional yeast is awesome. It is grown on blackstrap molasses, and is loaded with b vitamins, including B12-it is in fact the source of B12 that is fed to animals to make them produce B12, since they dont produce it naturally. It is delicious, with a cheese like flavor. You can make smoothies with it, sprinkle it on popcorn, bake with it, or make a mock cheese sauce. Its so much better than some synthetic vitamin pill. Give it a try-its inexpensive and really great for you. By the way, the yeast is not live, and can be used safely by those with candida.
While I was a vegan, and even today, I used it to make Mac and Cheese. I would chop up some kale, or broccoli rabe, and mix it in, bake it is delicious.
Mix the yeast with some soy milk, some garlic, and some whole wheat pastry flour (to thicken).
It's good on popcorn.
I love nutritional yeast, and it is so good in so many ways. Start with some basics, like sprinkling it on a baked potato, or other types of potatoes.
