Does vegetarianism make your hair grow grey/gray prematurely?!
Does vegetarianism make your hair grow grey/gray prematurely?
If so, is it because of a lack of a certain mineral/vitamin...?
Answers:
I don't think so.
I can't tell you if it helps one keep or causes one to lose color but diet in general probably has at least a slight effect. At the moment it's a pretty broadly accepted consensus that as hair color is decided by genetics so is the greying of hair. I don't think THAT much research (compared to say cancer) has been done on the topic yet though.
As far as I know, the rate at which one's hair goes grey is pre-determined.
Besides, if you have a proper, nutritionally balanced, vegetarian diet, you wouldn't be lacking in any vitamin or mineral.
Not necessarily. Any diet that is imbalanced can contribute to health problems. Grey hair is generally genetically determined, but if I can speak from my own experience, an individual can break the mould. Both my parents began to go grey in their early 20s and I have been vegetarian for 13 years and still no greys to report. I can't say that it is diet for sure, but that is the major difference in our lifestyles.
i can't give you the scientific answer, but from personal experience, i would have to say no. i have a much older friend who has not eaten meat or fish of any kind since 1983, and at age 60 he is amazing. his hair is only slightly gray, and he has the energy and body of about a 35 year old, skin toned and firm, absolutely no plastic surgery, dyes, injections, or special exercise routines involved. his beard is about 60% gray, but other than that it would be impossible to guess his age. i think its more genes than diet that determines grey hair. that, and stress levels, LOL
maybe, you can ask an expert about it...
not at all-in fact my hair color looks better and brighter since I went veg years ago. Its super shiny too!
i seriously doubt that. being vegetarian is the healthiest you can get (aside from going vegan) and it's scientifically proven (i know that's thrown a lot now-a-days).
as long as you eat a variety of veg. then there is no way you'll be lacking any minerals etc.
you can get alot of minerals and protein from vegetables (contrary to popular belief) and without the fat and E. coli.
