What are some good meat egg and dairy substitutes?!

Question:

What are some good meat egg and dairy substitutes?

I'm considering going vegitarian when I'm 12 and vegan at 13. I know I'll need a lot of vitamins and stuff because I'll still be very young. PLZ HELP!!

Answers:
If you eat a well balanced diet, you wont need supplements. My 12 year old daughter has been veggie for years, and she is thriving. Beans, legumes, pulses, portabello mushrooms, and some of the phony meats like boca burgers help (my daughter does not like any of the fake meats-she doesnt see the point) For eggs, you can substitute ground flax seed as an egg replacer in baked goods. For dairy, you can try rice, almond, or sesame milk (we make ours homemade) Make sure you eat plenty of FRESH fruits and veggies. We juice twice a day, juicing carrots, celery, parsley, swiss chard, and apples or pears. The fruit offsets the taste of the veggies. Eat lots of salad with plenty of raw veggies-ice cold radishes are so crispy and crunchy! Yum. Good luck, feel free to email me or my daughter if you want to. We have been doing this a long time and have loads of recipes and ideas. Good luck!!

Definitely take a good multivitamin. You're really gonna need to watch your iron levels.

Tofu is a great substitute but you have to cook it properly. It tastes bland on it own but it's like a sponge for flavour.
Applesauce is a great substitute for butter.
Toffuti makes great products--Everything from Better Than Cream Cheese to Toffuti frozen bars.
Also make sure you're exercising. Vegetrian diets can be surprisingly high in fat.

A good egg substitute is flaxseed. High in Omega 3 and no cholesterol.

tofu, soy, beans, lactaid that kind of stuff is pretty good

The most important thing to do is talk with your parents, get their support. You will probably need help preparing meatless meals, and they may support you enough to go meatless now and then, too.

If you need an egg substitute for baking, try using a tablespoon of soy flour and 2 tablespoons of water per egg in the recipe. As for breakfast, just skip the eggs- go for a high-fiber cereal or a smoothie- my son'sd favorite. We use about a cup of soymilk, a banana, a tablespoon of Peanut Butter, flax seeds, wheat germ, ice. You can add a scoop of chocolate slimfast powder for a great vitamin boost and a chocolatey flavor. It's got a banana-split, PB cup thing going on and is crazy healthy..

beans n dark veggies
