Vegans with IBS?

My lifelong IBS vanished completely within a matter of days of starting a vegetarian diet. Commercial milk was a huge issue for me, as was meat. Both are loaded with growth hormones, steroids, antibiotics, and loads of other things-the human body doesnt know how to process all that chemical crap! I highly recommend you give it a whirl. I suffered IBS, had many scopes, drugs, procedures, etc. It stopped abrubtly when I went veggie, and only came back once when I cheated on the diet-and with a vengance! Good luck!
guess what...beans and chick peas cause ibs too
Have you researched better foods? If you do want to eat meat, try looking for meat that is organic, hormone/steroid and antibiotic-free. Try reading ingredients. You might be surprised by WHAT you are actually eating (i.e. MSG, propylene glycol-yes that IS in some food, artificial color and flavor, etc.). Try to eat food that is less processed. If you can afford to, look for a Whole Foods Market in your area. They have an amazing array of food, much of it organic, and there are ingredients that are simply not allowed in the store. Good luck and feel better.
It may well help. Weight management on a vegan diet, as with an omnivore diet, depends on what you eat. It's probably worth a try, and a try would be at least a month.
I'm giving you a medical site as a link. It should help.
I'm not vegan, but I feel 100 times better since going vegetarian. Before hand I had all types of digestive problems. I went through a bunch of tests, had ultrasounds, the works. Nothing showed anything actually "wrong" with me, but none of the problems went away. This had gone on for about a year and a half and I had just kind of accepted that was the way things were going to be.
A bit more than a year ago I decided to go vegetarian. I did expect to feel a bit better but I really didn't expect how much of a difference there would be. All the pains, cramping, bloating, everything quit within a matter of days. Besides that my complexion has evened out, I sleep better, have more energy, and feel happier. I'm 32 years old and I feel better than I ever have in my life.
if you have IBS with constipation it might because more vegetables mean more fiber which then results in more frequent bowel movement. If you have the other type, I would think that it would aggrevate the matter.
Hi
Taking veg is always good but do be careful. Not all veg are suitable for IBS like cruciferous vegetable (brocolli, cauliflower) are a "no-no" because they cause gas buildup. Some people cannot handle onions and beans. Safe vegetables are like carrots and lettuce.
If you can handle tofu (bean curd). It helps because it is a rich source of protein.
But it you are not a vegetarian now, I wouldn't suggest you go all veg. You can eat fish (steam) and chicken (not fried). IBS sufferers needs to be careful of the food they eat, eliminating everything else but veg really narrows down your choice and nutrients you need.
If you are not lactose intolerant, you can take yogurt. It helps to build your good bacteria.
best.
