Are "love hearts" suitable for vegitarians?
I dont know what all the E numbers are you see...
INGREDIENTS:
Sugar, Acidity Regulators: Malic Acid, Tartaric Acid; Sodium Bicarbonate, Stearic Acid, Modified Starch, E470b, Anti-Caking Agent: Magnesium Carbonate; Flavourings, Colours: E100, E104, E110, E122, E124, E129, E132, Elderberry Extract.
Answers:
I would say yes but do you really want to eat all those E numbers?
YES EAT AWAY!
I'd stay away from them mostly because of the sugar. Most candies like these use refined sugar, which uses bone char (not vegetarian) to refine them. Plus, all of those additives are terrible for you. Make dark chocolate covered raisins or snack on something naturally sweet like grapes or an orange.
I don't know about the E numbers, but stearic acid can come from animal fat. I wouldn't risk it.
No, they are full of meat, fish, eggs and offal
E100 = turmeric or curcumin
E104 = quinoline yellow, a food dye
E110 = another yellow food colouring
E122 = a synthetic red food colouring
E124 = Ponceau 4R, another synthetic red food colouring
E129 = yet another red food colouring
E132 = indigo dye (derived from plant material)
E470b = magnesium salts of fatty acids - can be of animal origin
Stearic acid = type of fatty acid, can be of animal origin
These two are the ingredients to worry about. According to the official Lovehearts website, Lovehearts are suitable for vegetarians but not vegans https://www.lovehearts.com/swz_allergies... (although I'm a bit concerned that for an 'official' site there are a lot of spelling mistakes, eg celary, sulpher)
Yes, my friend is a veggie and eats these all the time!
I"m not sure what love hearts are but if it is that heart-shaped candy sometimes sold I would have to say it is not suitable for anyone--vegetarian or otherwise.
I can see you think it is a sin to eat meat. So if its not meat it is okay. Much better instead to think positively of a vegetarian diet. Can you possibly think the list of ingredients you supply could in a positive sense be good for you? Maybe it isn't poison but good? Probably it is more like a poison than a food. Pure sugar contains no meat or meat products: does that mean you could major in pure sugar and be healthy?
I wonder how the elderberry extract got in there? That makes a good tonic except of course it is just a trace.
Only babies eat those love-hearts.
