Well, that depends on your personal beliefs. Here are what types of vegetarians are out there and what it means:
Semi-vegetarians:eat white meat and seafood, but no red meat.
Vegetarians:Eat no meat or seafood
Lacto-vegetarians: Eat no meat or seafood, drink milk, but not eggs.
Ovo-Vegetarians: Eat no meat or seafood, don't drink milk, but eat eggs.
Lacto ovo vegetarians: Eat no meat or seafood but drink milk and eat eggs.
Vegans: Dont use any animal produts, no meat, gelatine, leather, honey, milk, eggs, no cosmetics with animal products and many don't use products that are tested on animals.
Macrobiotics: eat only beans, legumes and fruit that falls off of a tree. They don't use leather, eat meat, drink milk, eat eggs or root vegetables. Usually only eat raw foods like nuts and stuff...very extreme and hard to be healthy that way.
For more information on vegetarianism, go to peta.com they have lots of free information there. They can mail you a vegetarian starter kit that has lots more information. Good luck!and great choice, it's very healthy!
The simple answer is, dont eat meat.
After that it is up to the indiviudal. Some people say fish & shell fish is okay, but other people stay away from all seafood.
I think it is generally accepted to eat eggs, for example breads & pasta has eggs in it.
my advice:do not be a vegetarian just for the sake of it!!!
there are no 'rules', the whole idea of being vegetarian is what YOU believe in, if you are against animal cruelty etc then dont eat meat.
if you stop eating meat for the sake of being vegetarian you will become anemic (lake of iron, its really bad for you).
dont follow other people, do what you believe in
I don't know why people become vegetarians. The human body was created to chew and digest flesh and vegetable matter.
But if you so want to do it, just stop eating meat.
There are no 'rules' to being a vegetarian! There are vegans also.....not sure of the definitions, but some people eat just no meat, others no meat, dairy, eggs, or anything with animal byproducts in them, some even refuse to wear leather or animal materials! The choice is really yours.....you could just not eat beef (like I do), eat only chicken and seafood, be a really strict vegetarian and not even eat eggs, etc. Heck, there are even fruitarians, who only eat fruit (no veggies) and nuts! But don't become a vegetarian just to fit in, or be different! Do it because you really want to!
yeh its up to the person some people avoid all meat and eggs. they make eggless cakes and the like and others thinks it fine to eat "vegetarian chickens" that have not been fed any meat.
you might need to grab a book or something stuff like rennet and gelatin words are hidden with meat and animal parts
Being a vegetarian means you do not eat any animals. An easy way to remember this is not to eat anything that has a face.
A vegan is different from a vegetarian. Vegans do not eat anything that comes from an animal, such as eggs, milk, cheese, etc.
I am a pescetarian, meaning that I am a vegetarian who only eats fish. I don't eat any land animals.
You should do some research on the internet or in the library. My daughter is a total vegetarian because of the cruel way animals are treated in slaughterhouses.
No Meat or pork not anything that harms animals
Eat vegetables and fruit and pasta with no meat in it
anything Dairy and with grains.
There are no rules for being a vegetarian. Becoming a vegetarian and how you become a vegetarian is a choice. The word 'vegetarian' is just a label, generally to describe one who doesn't eat meat.
The definitions are generally divided into Vegetarian and Vegan.
A vegetarian may eat seafood but most do not (I do not believe that eating seafood makes you a vegetarian), and generally they eat dairy and/or eggs. Some vegetarians choose to eat only white meat (eg. chicken) and not red meat.
A vegan refrains from consuming any animal-derived product (red meat, white meat, seafood, dairy, eggs, maybe honey).
Some people refrain from eating products such as gelatin/e (a gelling agent derived from animals, used in jelly, lollies, some ice cream and some yoghurt, mousse etc), cochineal (colour 120, a red dye derived from crushed insects), shellac (glazing agent 903, a glaze derived from insects) and you can go on.
It really comes down to why you are becoming vegetarian. If you don't like the idea of eating dead animals, perhaps avoiding those products is the way to go. If your intent is primarily to prevent the suffering and death of animals, avoiding all meat, seafood and preferably dairy and/or eggs is the way to go.
If you don't want to cut out dairy and/or eggs (I did that for a year myself, and I personally found it really hard), you can purchase only free-range organic eggs. Some eggs are marked with the RSPCA stamp of approval, so you know the hens have been treated well. Organic milk is generally harder to find in Australia but I don't think it's impossible.
Replacements for meat and dairy are very uncomplicated, readily available and easy to use after you give them a few tries. To replace meat: tofu, tempeh, beans, lentils, seitan, whole grains, legumes. There is also a wide range of "mock meat" readily available, including sausages in many flavours (Sanitarium), hotdogs, chicken schnitzels, chicken nuggets, burger patties, bacon, ham, the list just goes on. The sausages, hot dogs, schnitzels, nuggets and patties are great because a) you know what's in them and b) they taste awesome. I've never liked bacon, so it doesn't appeal to me in any form but it could be good.
If you wish to cut out dairy, replacements include: Milk - soy milk (Vitasoy is the best brand, no aftertaste, great flavours), rice milk, nut milk, coconut milk, oat milk. Ice cream - non-dairy gelato, sorbet, tofu/soy frozen desserts (many taste just like ice cream, only slightly less creamier). I had a bit of trouble finding good yoghurt, cream and cheese substitutes. There are cheese substitutes but the ones I tried tasted awful, and I don't know much about yoghurt or cream ones.
If you wish to cut out eggs, replacements include: tofu, ready made egg substitutes which don't work too badly in custards etc.
Whatever choice you make, any choice to help animals is a beneficial one to you, the animals, and the environment.
Well when i started i just gave up on meat chicken and fish
i still drink milk and cheese
You just eat what you want
There is no vegan-cop who tells you what to eat....
depends on what type of "veganismness" your going into
hardcore vegetariens aka just vegetarien eat nothing to do with animals. eat only plant food. no fish, eggs, meat (duh) or diary, even honey lol
lacto-vegetarians will include dairy products but eliminate fish, eggs and such
lacto-ovo vegetarians eat both eggs and dairy products.
hope this helps
there are no "rules" and no veggie police to charge you with improper eating. Its simple, avoid all dead animals, and learn what things they are hidden in, such as jello (gelatine is made from the boiled bones, skins, tendons, and ligaments of slaughtered animals) Cheese contains rennet which comes from the 4th stomach of baby male calves (veal) Many flavorings marked as "natural" are from animals sources, such as the flavorings in dorittos chips http://www.fritolay.com/fl/flstore/cgi-b...
Most fast food french friest have beef tallow, which is the cows equivilent of lard. Animal by products are wide spread, but if you do some research, you will be better educated to make good choices about what you eat. Good luck!
