I'm a vegetarian and my mom was going to throw out clams so i ate them?
We had a container of clams in the freezer that were nearing their expiration date, and she was going to throw them out. They were still good and i just couldnt see wasting them cause then it would be like they died for nothing. I am not a vegetarian for health reasons per se, but because i don't feel that an animal should have to give up its life so i can eat. I am not looking to validate my reasons, just to hear the opinions of other vegetarians/vegans.

How are animals killed for milk?
I agree with you. I would have done the same thing. I was a vegetarian for over 2 years & during that time I probbaly would have reacted the same way you did.
I was vegetarian because I don't believe my life is more important than an animals life. Therefore why should he die to feed me when I can easily eat greens and be happy and healthy?
Don't feel guilty. What you did was not wrong at all.
Have a good day. ;-)
My opinion is that you are not vegetarian. This thinking is not how vegetarians think at all.
I wouldn't have bothered eating them. But then, that's just me. I'm also a vegetarian, so that would have been another reason.
Stop worrying about the waste. It's her money not yours.
Ha ha ha ha
I wouldn't feel guilty! But I would have cooked them for someone else.
Edit:
There are several levels of vegetariaism. Some consume milk and eggs, others eat fish, etc. Others are vegans. The important thing is you are trying! I understand your thinking... I have been a vegetarian since I was very young, but it does bother me when I see an animal killed in vain. Like I said, I wouldn't have ate it myself but would have cooked it for someone else.
Anyone who thinks they are such wonderful vegetarians?? You should stop driving your car... even the tires of your car are made with some animal products!
It is your decision and noone can judge it! Do what you feel like to do!
your question is an oxymoron.
you are no longer a vegetarian.
Shame, but your choice i guess.
your choice to eat what you like, but its not your choice to make up definitions for words, thats why our communication has evolved, because we have commonly agreed definitions. be comfortable with the fact you are a meat-eater, if you want to call yourself a vegetarian then perhaps you want to look at why you are kidding yourself.
A vegetarian does not eat any meat, fish, poultry or slaughter by-products.
There is no room in the definition for how the animal died or if it would go to waste anyway.
I would NEVER knowlingly eat meat, its just not in a vegetarians thought process
Well, one thing's for sure. You can now take the first 3 words out of your post cos you are no longer a vegetarian.
Then you're not a vegetarian! You're one of those .... omnivores that don't buy meat but do salvage it from other people ... what do they call themselves? "Freegans"?
These actions are not upholding the ethics you claim to live by. I personally don't believe that you can be a vegetarian for animal rights reasons since animals are still killed for dairy and eggs. But even so, by eating an animal directly as you did, you violated the conscientious objection to using animals as food which is a cornerstone of any animal rights theory.
Simple logic dictates if you don't believe animals should be killed for food the least you could do would be to not participate in using animals for food.
so you were a pescatarian for a day. No big deal. Go back to being vegetarian today or tomorrow, and carry on. Dont let closed minded people on here judge you. I commented once that I had to eat fish on occaision (once a year, if that) and I got told that I lied to people about what I eat and that I am not a vegetarian-thats a load of crap. If someone is a Christian, and they commit some small sin, does that mean they are no longer a Christian? Of course not-they are very judgemental and closed minded on here sometimes. Pay no attention. I live a mostly vegan lifestyle, and do what I need, when I need, for whatever reasons they might be. Let yourself off the hook and dont try to fit into a neat little label that someone else has defined.
Sorry for you, you conscientiously choose to eat them, that makes you no longer a vegetarian. But people make mistakes, so if you want to continue being a vegetarian, then don't eat meat, simple as that.
Cows aren't killed for milk?!?!?!? see, I don't know how people who claim "I don't feel like an animal should give up its life so I can eat." can not know about the horrible things that happens to cows from then dairy industry, and the horrible things that result from it-- The veal industry.
Maybe you should look it up.

Take your pick.
But for your question... If you still want to be a vegetarian, go ahead, You made a mistake... but by willingly choosing to consume meat, you are choosing not to be a vegetarian.
Oh you are soooo going to Vegetarian hell....REPENT NOW!!
Nobody should tell you how to live your life. If you don't want to eat meat, then don't...Whatever your reasons are.. You are who you are.. and if you don't like meat, then so be it.. You are not worse or better for it.
So you ate some clams.. I see you have massive guilt over it... Just don't eat meat again.
Oh, give yourself a break. My goodness, hasn't anyone ever heard of "everything in moderation?". Just like those people who are crazy obnoxious about NEVER taking a drink of alcohol, some vegetarians are crazy obnoxious about never touching an animal food. You know what, you do more for the environment and animal livelihood than most americans, so you fell off the wagon one day, OK so jump back on and keep going.
I am a vegetarian, also. Its OK, every once in a while I eat a shrimp. 99% of the time I'm a vegetarian - in my book that makes us both vegetarians. I can round up :-)
