What can I eat when vegan?!
What can I eat when vegan?
I have been Vegetarian for five years, since I was ten years old. I would now also like to become a vegan, what sort of foods and drinks can you have while on a vegan diet? I find it hard to find stuff I like to eat now, so is their a good variety of vegan food availiable?
Answers:
Vegans don't eat animals or animal by-products, such as milk and eggs..
eat anything that doesnt have a pulse
You can eat what everyone else eats, just without the animals/animal products.
You can eat anything which doesnt come from animals.. that means no meat, eggs, milk, cheese, yoghurt, cream etc..
There basically isnt much you can eat. Read labels - they will tell you if the food youre buying is suitable for vegans or not.
I think that you are only allowed to eat other Vegans.
:-)
You can eat anything but- things that had eyes or their by -products also honey is on the lists of DON'Ts.
Safest is to eat whole foods that were never procesed- all vegetables and fruits. No animals that means no red meat no foul no fish.
Jell-o and saltines are surpirses- jello is a meat by product and saltines sometimes contain beef fat.
Be wary of restaurant food- they do not follow strict rules for a vegan and couldn't care less.
Vegans - eat anything but meat, seafood, poultry, milk/diary products and eggs. Oh, honey too.
Frankly, i find it very hard to get any vegan meals when outside unless the food stall's uncle/auntie does not mind cooking a special meal just for you. But that does not mean there is no variety. There are more vegetables and fruits out there then animal products. It is a pity that many don't experiment with cooking when it comes to strictly using with vegetables and fruits, pulses and nuts...
Read up on vegan diets online and at bookstores. I am sure you will find something that appeal to you. Plus understanding their nutrient contents, various taste and sometimes unique tastes, cooking methods and so on gives us the much needed boost to stay a vegan. We appreciate and start to respect and adore what we eat. Ahh, you will understand that with time.

1) Milk can be replaced with soy milk.
2) Salads - mixed vegetables/fruits - are excellent to supplement you with vitamins and minerals. No single vegetable or fruit can give our daily requirement of nutrient hence mix different colors of vegetables and fruits into your daily diet.
Why the different colors? Because, each fruits and vegetables have their benefits hence their characteristic - hence the different colors. E.g. Carrots are high in carotene hence their color orange. So do not eat one type of fruit/vegetable.
Examples of colors and their vegetables/fruits:
- Red (tomatoes/apples)
- Orange and yellows (carrots/bananas)
- Greens (spinach/grapes)
- Purple (eggplants/blackcurrants)
- Black (black beans/seaweeds)
3) Tofu = bean curd are excellent protein givers. They are the only plant source that provides us with complete protein, the equivalent of meat/fish protein.
4) Little rice for their carbohydrates
5) Whole grains provides with fiber
6) Lots of water; 8-10 glasses a day
You can eat everything without animal products. There are so many vegan choises now and more and more will appear. There is substitutes for everything and many brands make extra vegan stuff. Just look at the lable.
