About becoming a vegetarian?!
About becoming a vegetarian?
When you become a vegetarian, are you allowed to have dairy and eggs? Or are dairy and eggs considered meat? I don't want to eat meat anymore but I'm not willing to give up dairy and eggs.

I do eat free range eggs. The reason I do is because they are healthier then the other type. The non free range chickens are givin food that has chemicals and stuff like that and so my family has only bought free range eggs.

To teanah203: the eggs you buy in stores haven't been fertilized I thought so then how can it be an unborn chick? Without being fertilized it can't become a chick so it technically isn't a chick. Thats just what I think.

The reason I want to become a vegetarian isn't because of animal rights and stuff (but don't get me wrong! I love animals and I try my best to protect them but to me, eating meat isn't like contributing to their harm or anything...). The reason I want to become a vegetarian is for health reasons. I've heard that some people were vegetarians and lost a lot of weight because of it. I am going to continue to eat eggs because I need the protein. I do drink rice milk though... but dairy isn't excluded from my diet. I'm allergic to dairy but I still have it sometimes because it is practicly everything.

Vegetarians eat dairy, they just don't eat fish or meat (fish eaters are called pesco-vegetarians but it's not vegetarian). If you didn't eat meat or dairy then you would be a vegan. So no, you don't have to give up dairy to become a vegetarian.
People are 'designed' to eat meat as a part of their diet but many people chose not to for a variety of reasons. I personally don't eat meat but I get all the nutrients I miss from other sources e.g. I get iron from spinach and protein from eggs. You should read up about nutrition before you become a vegi to make sure you have a healthy diet.
But you should just eat what you want as long as you think about what you eat and where it comes from, don't fix yourself by a title. Weigh up the moral, health and any other reason you may have and then decide what you should eat.
Good luck with it.

Vegi for 15 years, havent been ill in 8 years.
yeah you can eat that. there are many different types of vegetarians ^_^
yes you could. vegitarian is not eating mean, and a vegan would be giving up dairy products and eggs. on a personal note, i wouldnt advise stopping eating meat. dispite what the hippies say humans are designed to be meat eaters. neandertals eating meat is what caused our brains to enlarge into what they are today. protien is good for you. however, whatever your choice is good luck.
People have varying differences of opinion when it comes to this subject matter, and in all honestly it isnt really defined anywhere. It really depends on what you want to get out of it. If your becoming a vegetarian for animal rights reasons, then i would skip out on dairy and eggs for the same reason as meat, but if its for health reasons you should still eat eggs and dairy as they are an excellent source of protein, but sparingly as they are high in fats.
In my opinion vegetarian means no meat of any kind, red meat, chicken or fish, but you can eat any and as much dairy as you want. I do know some "selective" vegetarians who still only eat chicken and fish (no red meat) and still refer to themselves as one. Vegans, an extreme form of vegetarians do not allow themselves to eat any products of animals at all, meat, dairy or otherwise.
So as for your question, yes you are allowed to have dairy and eggs while you are a vegetarian. Vegans are the ones who cannot. But again, there is no way to define it, it is a personal lifestyle choice.
Yes you can eat dairy products. You shouldn't drink milk though. You should use the fake milk. I am a vegetarian and I still eat dairy products. I don't eat eggs though, but I still use them in cooking. If you are doing this for your health you might want to eventually stop eating dairy products because they are bad for you as well. Or just don't eat it as much. Don't think that dairy products are good for you cuz of the protein. There was a test done on mice (I think its mice) and they fed them milk and dairy stuff thinking that it's good for them cuz of the protien. There was some other mice that they didn't feed any dairy. The mice that ate dairy all died and I think they also had cancer. The mice that didn't eat dairy lived. They did this a second time and the same thing happened! Also eating dairy causes most cancers including breast cancer. So you may want to slow down on it.
Giving up dairy is hard, I'm still working on it.
Good luck!
I think vegans do not eat eggs or dairy products, they are more strict with their diet.Vegetarians on the other hand,do consume dairy products.
you are not allowed to eat eggs if you are a vegetarian (at least not in my religion) because technically, an egg in an unborn chick. you are allowed to have other dairy products like milk becuase they do not have animals in them. however, you have to check the ingredients in some types of cheeses for they may have rennet or enzymes. Rennet and enzymes are animal guts and other animal products that help make the cheese creamier.i myself eat milk and certain types of cheeses, but do not eat eggs. if you totally exclude dairy and eggs from your diet, you are considered vegan. i think of my self as a "veganarian" which means i am a vegetarian, but not a full vegan. Hope I helped!
Yeah, and theres no LAW of what you can/ can't eat its your decisions. In your question you ask are you allowed.....
Dairy is milk and things that are made from milk. Meat is the flesh of a living being. Vegetarians eat dairy, vegans do not.
unless ur becoming a vegan, milk and eggs r fine, i still eat eggs and i drink milk, and im a veggitarian.
if you are asking would you still be considered a vegetarian ..the answer is yes .. many people start off as vegetarians it is a terrific step in stopping the abuse of animals , the human body and our planet .. In time you may want to read fully about dairy and eggs .. you should try to buy free range eggs , not caged , or debeaked, or kept locked in one room with little space.. maybe there is a local farm near you where the chickens actually run fee..there are several near me ..(even though I do not eat or use eggs) .. Milk as someone suggested you may want to try soy milk regular and chocolate as silk and 8th continent ..and it will help you begin to cut down a bit on your milk consumption ...they taste good and are good for you .. please do not get me wrong I think the step you are taking is a great one..!
You would be a lacto-ovo vegetarian...the most common kind. You should read up on food and nutrition though. Eggs do have protein but are not healthy to eat too often. There are much healthier forms of protein like whole grain products and beans.
You are "allowed" to eat anything you wish-the veggie police wont turn up on your doorstep! Many vegetarians continue to enjoy milk and eggs, because the animal wasnt harmed in the making of them (commercial dairy is very bad though, not only health wise, but animal cruelty at its worst) Try to find a local dairy farm or food co op that sells milk from well cared for cows-raw dairy is easily tollerated by even the most dairy allergic people like myself. I do fine with raw, but have been hospitalized many times from commercial dairy. Eggs are NOT fertalized, and are NOT a baby chick-the hen discards unfertilized eggs the same way a woman has a period if she does not become pregnant. You can find good cheeses that do not contain animal rennet, which comes from the 4th stomach of slaughtered baby male calves (veal) Vegetarian rennet cheeses are easily found (Cabot has some great ones) Continue to enjoy your dairy and eggs, but try to get it from trusted sources. Good luck!
vegetarians can eat dairy and eggs. a person who does not eat meat nor dairy and eggs is called a vegan.
