Morning Star is good, also Boca Burgers. The Moosewood Collective puts out lots of great vegetarian cookbooks and all the recipes I've tried from them have really been good. There's also one I have by Carol Geller called "1000 Vegetarian Recipes" and it has a lot of cooking and nutrition tips as well as great recipes.
I was a veggie for 8 years until I, too, snapped...during my pregnancy all I craved was red meat!! I still like a lot of vegetarian meals, though, and still use those cookbooks I mentioned quite often. Good luck to you!

i hate to say it but stop........ cause you will turn into a vegain,,,,,,,, not too fun....

Morning star burgers are the best! Hot dogs not so much.

Take a look: http://www.goveg.com/index.aspx...

FACT: Out of 600 octagerians(people who live to be 100 or older)studied...not a single vegetarian out of them...not 1

I was a veggie for six months, but then I snapped.

hi. I'm not a vegetarian, but i can give you some advice. God put certain animals on the earth that we should eat to live. if your overweight (not that you are) this might be a good idea. sometimes you can get a headache or stomach ache by switching foods all of a sudden. so research at google and I'm sure you'll find something.
p.s. don't put your age, there are predators on here.

13 is a little young to become a vegetarian, in my opinion. There are a lot of nutrients in meat, fish and poultry that are important to a growing system. Unless your whole family is cutting meat out then.... There are tons of cookbooks out there on how to cook vegetables and non-meat dishes, I would recommend you read them first.

the best place to go is Trader Joes... they have GREAT vegetarian / vegan products! Also, consult your doctor about vitamins you should be taking for your growth and foods to eat in place of meat...

My favorite cookbooks:

1.Country Life - great cookies

2.Guilt Free Gourmet, Vicki Griffin (Has a lot of health information in the back of the book, too.)

Great kid foods - Cheeses for nachoes, tortillas, sauces & dips. Delicious Sloppy Joes.
Tasty, tasty soups that are healthy.

3.Five Loaves, by Neva Bracket (These recipes use nuts instead of oils in the ingredients. Sure improves the complexion!)

Check out the natural foods section in your grocery store. Try Trader Joes if there's one in your area. Super Wal*Mart carries fake meats in the produce section, too.

Have fun!

Edit: Don't let those afraid of a vegetarian diet scare you off. If you eat a good variety of grains, vegetables, fruits, nuts & seeds you will be fine. It's called eating the rainbow - choose veggies & fruits from all the color groups and eat a variety in the other food groups. My husbands family has been vegetarians their entire lives and they aren't lacking any vitamins or minerals. They're all raising healthy vegetarian children from birth. If you plan on eating mainly fake meats, though, you should look into a vitamin/mineral supplement.

i hope you can ask your parents to take you to organic georcery stores? like Trader Joe's, Henery's market, Whole Foods or Mother's Market. I find great things at costco too!

they need to help you stay healthy as a veggie. mine taught me how to eat right and kept me from getting fat or sick. (it happens a lot, girls can lose their iron levels in the blood.)

other Great brands like Amy's, O - Organics at Vons & Boca Burger.

Make sure you get enough protein from BEANS, soy, tofu and remember to include vegetables in your diet! don't just eat french fries and corn.

green stuff! broccoli w/ cheese is good, try and eat eggplant if you can handle it. add spices and other things to cover the taste, its so healthy.

try edamame. (type in "edamame" in google.com/images to see) it is little asain green beans that are high in protien. they taste great with salt. great snack.

good luck, be strong!

This book is good for vegetarian teenagers and it has good recipes.

Both Yves and morningstar make meat substitute products. You can find veggie dogs, burgers, cold cuts, Veggie chicken nuggets....
Just make sure you try to see a nutritionist to make sure you get the nutrients you need. I know many vegetarian children and they are all very healthy.
Order this free veg. starter kit. It has good info plus great recipes.

Good luck

I am really glad that you're excited for this, just make sure you stick with it and don't give in to all the pressure you will face from others.

I just bought this book for $9.98 at Barnes and Noble, it's called "Easy Dinner: Vegetarian" by Carrie Holcomb.

It has recipes with ingredients that people actually have. (A lot of cookbooks have ingredients that I can't even pronounce). But this is a good book and the recipes have ingredients that I'm sure your parents would already have in the kitchen.
