A question to Vegans?!
A question to Vegans?
Why would you go against people who are buying meats that are already dead? Shouldn't you go do something to meat factories? If no one buys the meat, doesn't that mean that the animal was killed for nothing? Please explain.
Answers:
I'm not a Vegan, I'm Vegetarian, but there is a very simple explanation to your question.
The reason the animal was killed in the first place is to supply meat-eating people with the meat. If everyone stopped eating meat, guess what? Animals would no longer be bred and killed for human meat consumption.
This would also reduce pollution and health care costs worldwide. Unfortunately, the majority of mankind have not evolved to that level. Einstein was a Vegetarian, btw.
" If no one buys the meat, doesn't that mean that the animal was killed for nothing? "
THAT animal, yes. But if the store suddenly notices that a lot of meat is not being purchased, it will (after the end of the week or month) hold a board meeting and the managers will call up the meat industry to tell them demand is down. If this keeps up, the meat industry will tell the farmers that fewer cattle are needed. If this keeps up, the farmers will decide to grow fewer calves next generation. If fewer animals are grown, fewer animals are killed since they don't exist to begin with. Do you see the cause-and-effect chain of events? Look at the BIG picture. It may take years, to go from the beginning to the end of the chain, and it will take thousands of people to make a dent. But it's a start. Everything begins with a small start.
As I say to anyone who poses such questions you need to go back to high school and retake that class called Economics. Pay special attention to the part about supply and demand and you will have your answer.
Simply put, if there is no demand, there will be no supply (animals are not killed for food anymore).
IF NO ONE BUYS THE MEAT THEN THERE WILL BE LESS MEAT MADE/ LESS ANIMALS KILLED!!!! duh
supply and demand.
i don't have problem with people buying meat, but i feel sad, and it feels to me that some people have no soul, and i was walking around in a supermarket the meat section just reeks of flesh, its bad for my soul just being near the dead meat, oh well, to eachs own, maybe if oneday you becomes a living thing and then being killed for meat, then you'll not understand.
Supply and Demand
Simple, no customers equals no company.
The customers (consumers) have all the power.
Companies really have no power at all. Anyone could simply say, I'm not going to buy from that company or buy that product, and it would literally fade away. But humans are more like sheep than we like to admit and companies always take advantage of this and basically tell us what to do and we do it. They tell us to buy it and throw propaganda at us from all angles, and we buy. Simple. Tell a lie enough times and it will become truth.
That's terribly incomplete logic. No one would kill animals if there weren't people buying them. If we "did something to the factories," there would still be a demand for meat and it would come from other places. It's simple economics.
Your body does not require any animal products to function properly. That means animals that die for food are killed simply to satisfy your tastes. That's pretty close to dying for nothing.
If more people refused to support the meat industry, demand for it would go down. There is no justification in saying its already dead, so I might as well eat it. That line of thinking will accomplish nothing
The pseudo-logic of some of the omnivores that come in here trying to rationalize their contribution to the meat industry away floors me!!
I think the other answerers have summed this up for you quite well. Supply and demand. That's it. If you hadn't bought the meat LAST time they'd realize you wouldn't want it this time ... or next time ... and they'd stop 'production'/slaughter. Just because the animal is already dead doesn't mean you're abdicated of responsibility for it. They killed it for you and the others that buy the stuff.
