Are "Vegetarians" and "Vegans" the same?!

Question:

Are "Vegetarians" and "Vegans" the same?

No. A vegetarian I can understand. But "vegans" I consider them intolerant, narrowminded and dogmatic. They seem to forget that animals have been used since the dawn of history, whether as food, cover and for work. By the way, I call myself 'semi-vegetarian". Eat more vegetables, fruits and grains than meat. But I still like my chicken stew.

Answers:
Please don't generalize an entire group of people because of the few extremists you've met or read about.
I went vegetarian because meat just grosses me out and then vegan for health reasons. I actually call myself a dietary vegan because it does confuse people sometimes when I happen to have leather shoes or a leather purse.
And by the way, calling me intolerant, narrowminded and dogmatic because of my diet when you've never even met me is like calling all meat eaters murderers. It makes you the same as the vegan extremists.
Please practice a little tolerance yourself.

For simplicity, the difference between vegetarians and vegans is that while vegetarians do not eat meat, fish, or poultry, vegans neither eat nor use the products of any animal. It applies to the practice of living on the products of the plant kingdom to the exclusion of flesh, fish, fowl, eggs, honey, animal milk and its derivatives, and encourages the use of alternatives for all commodities derived wholly or in part from animals.

I don't care as long as they don't dictate to me what I eat. Just like I don't like people dictating what religion I should be.

no!!!!!!!!!!
LOOK @ THE SPELLING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...
totally different!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Vegetarians - They dont eat meat
Vegans - They dont eat any animal product, meat, dairy or wear leather.

i don't think so

I don't think all vegans are narrow-minded. I have a few friends who are allergic to some of those products -- be it dairy or meat. Maybe some of them don't have a choice.

no because vegans are person who never eat animal products

NO!!!
Vegetarians can eat and drink dairy
as Vegans can't.
Instead of milk they have soymilk.
;-)

Not exactly. A vegan you can`t eat dairy products.

No. Vegans will eat absolutely nothing coming from an animal. They don't drink milk, eat cheese, fish etc.

Most Vegetarians do eat milk, cheese etc. I also eat seafood.
I just don't eat any meat or chicken.

all these "semi-veggies" or "weekend veggies" piss me off. if your ganna eat me no ones stopping you but dont call yourself a vegetarian if you eat meat.that is somewhat offensive, how you consider me because i wasnt around slaughtering animals since the dawn of time. i was born 17 years ago and i chose to stop eating meat and i would never persuay anyone to stop eating meat unless they chose to.

It is really not fair to say that all vegans are "intolerant, narrow minded, and dogmatic"
And I don't get why you can understand a person being a vegetarian, but not a person being a vegan. After all, a Vegan is just a person who takes vegetarianism to the next level. If it is not OK to eat beef because the animal it comes from was severely abused in order for us to have a "nice dinner", then why does it make it OK for us to drink a glass of milk, when the animal it came from was also subjected to an awful life (Now I am talking about someone who is a vegan for ethical reasons). As for health reasons, what is wrong with taking a healthy lifestyle to the next level - cutting out the bad stuff entirely.
Just because you have come across some narrow minded, intolerant, dogmatic vegans doesn't mean that we all are that way. Hell, I have come across some narrow minded, intolerant, dogmatic... right wing crazies that were meat- eaters. but I'm not gonna go ahead and make a generalization to say that all meat- eaters are that way. In fact, I would consider that narrow minded.
