Anyone know a good (or ANY?) vegetarian barbecue sauce?!
Anyone know a good (or ANY?) vegetarian barbecue sauce?
I'd prefer a storebought variety, if it exists. I used to LOVE Bullseye & KC Masterpiece, but they refuse to tell me whether their "natural flavors" are animal derived. I'm not vegan, but I don't want to flavor my veggie kabobs with animal fat or flavor. I cant imagine that a good vegetarian barbecue sauce doesn't exist. Do you know of one??

Yes, vegetarian barbecue - but thanks for the totally naive response. Veggies like mushrooms, zucchini, sweet onion, etc are awesome on a grilled kabob. I also like to barbecue Quorn cutlets and portabello mushrooms. Why do people think we just sit around munchin' on carrot sticks all day?

To the last poster... I do not eat fish. I did when I first went "vegetarian" (yes, I realize that I was not a true vegetarian at that time), however I have not eaten fish in several months. The only reason I continued was because my doctor told me to, but now I know that I don't need it, so I don't eat it. But thanks for the info about Annies... I'll look for it!

Vegitarian BBQ?
WTF!
I havent found one yet that doesnt contain animal "natural" flavors, and like you, I cant get the company to give me a satisfactory answer. You can make a decent one yourself, with organic ketchup, blackstrap molasses, garlic, onion, and spices, such as cumin, ground black pepper, and salt. I too, do not sit around nibbling "bunny food", and I LOVE my grilled veggie kababs! Good luck-hope the homemade one works-and don't you just laugh at the ignorance of people who havent done the homeword about being a veggie? Idiots
Add 1/4 cup yellow mustard if you don't have dry mustard and 1/4 tsp allspice to "Steven G's" recipe above.
Annie's Naturals makes several flavors of vegan friendly BBQ sauce. I even see it in regular grocery stores and those 'super' big box places occasionally! All three of the BBQ sauces are vegan (she even has vegan worchestershire sauce!) but some of her products are lacto-ovo vegetarian (for the vegans that read this).
I find it really amazing that an avowed fish eater is speaking of doing veggie homework!
