I only have known a few vegans and they all looked sick, so I asked a SINCERE question. I am not trying to make fun of anyone.

Yes, my 12 year old veg daughter is the picture of health-clearly healthier and more vibrant than her meat eating friends. She is a brown belt in karate, can take down a grown man, out runs her friends in races, has more endurance, better skin, long, thick shiny hair, and perfect health, and is an honor roll student. I too, am far more healthy than when I ate meat, in fact I recovered from a crippling illness by giving it up. I don't know what vegans you know that are pallid and waiflike, but the ones I know are very healthy. At a recent high school reunion, in a class of 954 people, the few veggies among the group were clearly the healthiest, prettiest, and less aged. We were the only ones who still had our natural hair color, no wrinkles, and great figures and skin.
Sure. You can be healthy and vegan. I know a vegan guy who's 6' and 175 lbs. He used to be fat before when he ate meat, now he lifts weights and looks great. He lost 50 lbs. after becoming vegan and has kept it off more than 10 years.
No actually I haven't.
Funny thing about vegetarians and vegans, though. You wonder if they realize how many rabbits and gophers get slaughtered when they reap and harvest all that wheat. Also, for every cow or pig they don't eat, I vow to eat 3.
yup! you'd be surprised...sometimes stereotypes aren't accurate
yes she's a plus size model hehe...
Yes, but they spent A LOT of time preparing healthy meals that covered the entire protein strain. they also devoted a lot of time to exercise and research to make sure they were getting everything their body needs.
It was way too high maintenance for me, and I like steak too much.
Yeah, i knew this one guy that worked out and was built like an ox. He ate tons of whey protein and bee pollen I guess. It's possible!
Nope they always look like there lacking something in there diet
Nope- every vegan I know is too thin, pale white, and has stringy, lifeless hair. But I understand they don't fart either, so I guess it's a tradeoff...
Sure, lots of times. Fat vegans, thin vegans, tall vegans, short vegans, tanned vegans - I've met lots of healthy vegans.
I go to church with a whole entire family of vegan's - they are a little pale, but I wouldn't call them waif like. The wife makes a killer humus dip!
Yes, I have met several. If you are vegan and you understand nutrition it is very possible to live a life without meat products and be very healthy.
You get into trouble when you just eliminate protein and calcium sources instead of replacing them with things like soy.
I don't know, I like cheeseburgers too much to go vegan... =)
Yeah, the ones that eat meat. Hehe...silly emo-hippies and their titles.
Yeah I have. Vegans are really cool people.
yeah but it could go both ways. i've seen my share of pale vegans, too.
Yes I do my cousin Stephanie she's 18 and is 6 stone
Well, some meaters think that vegans and vegitarians are just nuts. I don't but some things like (the fruit may only fall from the tree, not picked) is going a little too far but otherwise, they just think they're crazy and over-eviromentalist
Ever meet a meat eater who didn't try to rationalize their diet choice by claiming that the vegan/vegetarian diet in some way lacks nutrients?
Alicia Silverstone, Moby, and Natalie Portman look fine. They're vegan. Pamela Anderson is a spokesperson for PETA and is probably vegan or near vegan. Regular vegans don't go for the hollywood tan, so they might look washed out. They don't have high blood pressure like the rest of the world... Vegan's also wouldn't look waiflike if you saw the body builds of the rest of the world. You are used to people being doughy looking since the American diet is so bad.
I agree with Joyce and Christy. Vegans looking unhealthy is a stereotype. If I said all meat eaters are fat, that would also be a stereotype. I think the idea that vegans don't get enough nutrients is just another excuse for meat eaters to keep indulging. I used to think, because I ate meat, that I had more blood than vegetarians. Ha! What a dumb excuse that was. Once you realize they are all stereotypes, myths, and lies, you will start to wonder what reason there is to keep murdering animals when you can have a healthy diet without it.
Nope, all the ones I've met have also suffered with halitosis, and the women have unsightly facial hair
yes. my cousin is a vegan and she just biked across the country and built homes on the way (through an organization called bike and build). she is a very healthy person and is getting her collage degree in June. so that's only a stereotype.
Of course, that's me.
Just take a look at some of these places, all vegan:

Also, people these days in N. America rarely see a thin person unless they are cancer patients on chemotherapy, so when they do see a thin person, they automatically feel they are sickly. If you are eating a natural diet, you will be thin. Only exercise will add muscle to your body, and lots of people these days rarely exercise or do hard labour jobs as they do in other countries.
If you've ever watched the show 30 Rock you will notice Alec Baldwin is a bit on the heavy side, so you'd probably be surprised he is a vegan.
I gotta say though, for some people "pallid and waiflike" is a good look.
I'm a 215 pound vegan and if you ever see me waddling around you'll see I have a lovely pink hue.
Some people don't get enough iron, and look pallid, but they need to be like popeye and eats their spinach.
ever meat a meat eater that is not over weight?
oh never mind
i met plenty of vegan who is very pallid and waiflike
Do I look pale or thin to you?

of course i know vegetarians that arent scrawny!

but im not fat or anything either.
5' 4.5", 102 lbs, and 13 years old. And not scrawny/fat at all.
*oh and btw-i am one of the tannest people at my school.
I have been a vegetarian for nearly 8 years, and been a vegan for about 3 months. Even though I am of a white skinned origin my skin is ever so slightly tanned or kinda golden. I would think I am fairly healthy as well, I am very active and full of spunk and energy, I only need 6 hours of sleep, Its rare for me to be sick (it was over 2 1/2 years ago that I was sick) I maintain a healthy weight, my hair is shiny and in good condition, my finger and toe nails are strong and thick and almost never break or chip, don't become cold easily.
My mother and 2 sisters are also vegan and experience good health as well.
