Thoughts on eating meat again after 10 years?!
Thoughts on eating meat again after 10 years?
ive been veggie for 10 years. at the time it was mostly to do with wanting to know what i was eating and disliking all the growth hormones, medicine, chemicals and low quality feed that animals were given....not wanting that passed on.
organic chicken didnt even enter into my world.
now thankfully it is becoming more affordably realistic for people to avoid weird crap in their food. (thou so much more and cheaper in London (uk) than canada where ive just moved to ).
so my veggie reasons are in question. also ive started really weight training heavily and although i drink and enjoy hemp protein, i feel like my body actually wants meat.
anyone else switched back?

thanks for the replies. id love to eat quorn again but they dont sell it at all in canada. im not just going to buy any meat, would still look as to where it came from, how was fed, what medication used, thats my main interest in what id eat.
i eat lentils, beans, nuts for protein, but feel really carb heavy and bloated all the time with the amount of protein i need to train.
thanks again.

I turned back briefly after 3 years, only to become veggie again coz my body started to feel so sluggish and unhealthy once I'd re-introduced meat. So saying, being vegetarian is a personal choice, and if you really feel that the reasons you became vegetarian are no longer valid, then it's entirely up to you.
My only advice if you are considering it is to go very slowly. After 10 years, most of the specific bacteria that helps to break down meat will have died, and you could experience nasty side effects, like stomach cramps and vomiting if you just start tucking into steak at each meal (I experienced both). Stick to organic lowfat white meat to begin with, perhaps only once or twice a week, and build up from there, and make sure that you keep a high level of fibre in your diet, because your body is used to a much higher level of fibre than most meat eaters get.
There are, however, some quite high profile body builders on the scene that are vegetarian. I remember an article on them in Muscle and Fitness a year or so ago, so perhaps you might do some research on what they do to maintain their (rather spectacular) bodies, before you decide to alter your diet.
My mother-in-law switched back after five years, and she got sick. She had to do it very slowly. Just a few ounces for the first few meals, and increase it slowly over time.
Definitely ease your way back into it, as after 10 years, your body won't be used to it at first. Choose some meats that'll be easier on your stomach like some cold cuts, and not a big greasy hamburger.

You should know that 'organic' doesn't always mean the animal didn't get hormones etc! It means that the animal can only get them under the 'care' of a veterinarian who prescribes them for the 'health' of the animal (that loophole is in every countries laws to the best of my knowledge).
You will almost certainly become sick if you start eating animals again. If you're avoiding soyfoods because of the idiotic claims about them having hormones forget it! It's meat industry lies about the phytosterols in soy and ignores the fact that animal products have *real* hormones. Use soyfoods and if you don't mind lots of egg Quorn products to satisfy cravings for flesh. Look over those bodybuilder links and you'll (hopefully) understand that you just don't need much more protein whilst training!
i have worked in a gym and still have an interest in the nutrition side of it as my full time employment was in the food inustry. i am a meat eater myself but i have to say that it would be an awful shame if you were to use the gym as an excuse for giving up your veggie life style. you only have to do a bit of asking around, their are lots of competition winning, veggetarian body builders out their, just do a bit of research, good luck.
Look at this link,it is Bill Pearl,he is a vegetarian

I think being a vegetarian is the better choice, and I don't think being a vegetarian is holding back your progress in the gym.I think it is ultimately up to you thoguh.
This question has really dampened my spirits. Vegetarian for 10 years and now wanting to go back ... it's tragic. I suppose it's because you and I have different reasons for going veg ...
