What are the benefits of becoming a vegetarian?!

Question:

What are the benefits of becoming a vegetarian?

Answers:
1) healthier ( no antibiotics in tofu!)
2) better for animals( they don't like having their throats slit!)
3) better for the enviorment( raising animals for food take up alot of land)

it's better for everyone! heee heeee heeee!

There are none.

nothing really because you don't save an animal, you become malnurished and parially starved.

I'm not a vegetarian, but I do understand why some people are:
1) healthy eating (did you know consuming too much protein actually inhibits absorption of calcium in your body?)
2) you're helping the environment
3) you're cutting out the "middle man" (ex: cows eat grass, then we eat the cow, so why not just eat vegies directly? It's more efficient that way. )
4) religious reasons
5) compassion for animals
6) you save money!

According to studies, vegetarians have better health than people that eat meat. They have lower rates of coronary artery disease, gallstones, cancer (particularly lung and colon cancer), kidney stones, colon disease, diabetes and high blood pressure. It has been shown that sometimes a vegetarian diet can help cure these diseases.

Various studies have shown that vegetarians have lower blood pressure than non-vegetarians.

Vegetarians have much lower cholesterol levels than people that eat meat. Heart disease is found much less in vegetarians.

You have less fat intake, but you also miss out on some vital nutrients that you will need to get in other areas. If you have been able to enjoy meat up to this point and are doing this for health reasons, let me tell you from firsthand experience that it doesn't matter what ANYONE says, it is IMPOSSIBLE to get the same meat taste from substitutes.

Good example; my husband and I went over to his friend's house one night. (Keep in mind his wife is vegatarian) And he heated up a couple corn dogs for me. I knew they tasted weird, and even sid something to my hubby, like I thought they had been frozen too long or something. But to be nice I ate them anyway. (What? Am I going to go over to his house, eat his food, and then complain about it?) He asked me when I was done if it was good, and of course I said yes, and he gloated and said they were vegatarian and I couldn't tell the difference. I tried to tell him I could but he just thought I was trying to cover it up. But like I said, I'm not gonna insult the guy's food!

ANYWAY, In my eyes the pros and cons are about the same. Unless you just can't stand to eat meat because you think of it as an animal, I wouldn't worry about the health benefits. My veg. friends say they crave a lot more sweets now.

if you eat lots of carrots you can turn orange like an umpa lumpa

This was my experience.
My energy level multiplied, my digestion improved, my skin cleared up, I lost some weight (about 10 pounds), my cholesterol went from 230 to 205 (and then to 161 when I went vegan-and another 10 pounds lost), and there were some other benefits as well that you wouldn't care about unless you're a woman. :)

Don't listen to these people. They obviously don't have their facts straight. First of all, some people become vegetarian because they want to stop supporting the meat and dairy industry. And even though it may seem like one person not eating meat isn't going to do anything, together as a whole vegetarians have accomplished alot in the fight against cruelty to animals, and even the vegetarians that don't get out and protest still have the satisfaction of knowing at least they aren't adding fuel to the fire by consuming animal products. Think about it, if a bunch of people started boycotting steak, eventually there would be less demand for it, If instead of drinking a glass of cow's milk with your dinner, you replaced it with a glass of soy milk there will be less milk cows used. Supply and Demand...

Second, You aren't losing anything by giving up meat, eggs, and dairy. In fact, The foods that vegans exclude happen to be the ones linked to all the major cancers and heart disease. So really you are gaining a healthier life. Pretty much the only thing vegetarians have to supplement themselves with is Vitamin B12. If you eat right and balance your diet you will get all the needed nutrients to live a long, healthy life.

Medical studies keep showing that vegetarians are less likely to suffer from such illnesses as heart disease, cancer, diet-related diabetes, obesity and high blood pressure. A vegetarian diet provides a wide range of health benefits. Research shows that vegetarians suffer less from many of the dieases associated with the typical Western diet, including obesity, coronary heart disease, hypertension, type II diabetes, diet-related cancers, diverticular disease, constipation and gall stones.

Less bodyfat, my friends are jealous, and they take all sorts of drinks when they go to the gym. I'm all natural, but they say they wouldn't be able to cut meat.

But yeah, less bodyfat is a big advantage. And I don't get sick too often. Last time I went to the doctor is 6 years ago, just before I became vegetarian. I guess it makes me eat a lot of vegetables and it helps.

Besides physical benefits there are some psychical also. You feel and look younger, become more understanding, careful and kind.

liive longer, you will eat less fast food, less pollution, less waste, less wasting water by banning such products, more energy, improved mood
