Im interested in becoming vegetarian/vegan, what can / cant I eat?

Answers:
If you want to be VEGAN, don't eat anything that has to do with animals. If you want to be just vegetarian, then it's okay to eat these things.
Honey, wearing leather and silk, sometimes owning pets are not vegan too. Some vitamin suppliments contain animal matters, and it's really hard to tell. Gelatin can come from animal source too.
Well, do you become a vegetarian because you care about animals or do you do it for your own health? Milk, egg white, and honey are good for you, and so are vitamin suppliments. So it depends on what your objectives are.
if you care about cows, then dont eat it, if you do, then do, its not like vegan is some cult and you either follow the rules or they kill you, it is a personal choice

basically, if u want to be a hardcore vegatarian, dont eat anything that a anima contributed to, milk doesnt matter, its just milk and if u really want, u can get soy milk, thats what i drink, i used to be a vegatarian for 11 years. there is alot of mock foods like fake chiken nugets that are made not out of meat and there is alot of fake baby back ribs and other stuff. Vegans eat alot mostly from plants, that s about all u eat, plant products. A good store to go to is Whole Foods if u have one in ur area, or trader joes.
you wouldn't be able to eat any meat or any thing that comes from animals including seafood . Only veges ,fruits , and greens.
This is just some nutritonal information to help you out since you are new to vegetarianism...
Eat a variety of "whole foods," with plenty of beans, nuts, whole grains, fruits, and vegetables. Avoid unhealthy foods like trans fats, which are usually listed as partially hydrogenated oils. Deep-fried foods often contain trans fats. Choose margarines that use nonhydrogenated oil, like Earth Balance or Smart Balance. Although a diet consisting of Coke and French fries is technically vegan, you can't be healthy if you eat nothing but junk food. Vitamin B12: Vitamin B12 is produced by bacteria, and some experts believe that vegetarians used to get plenty of this vitamin from bacteria in drinking water. Since drinking water is now treated with chemicals that kill the bacteria, it's important to make sure that you get enough vitamin B12 from fortified foods (like most brands of soy or rice milks, some breakfast cereals, and many brands of nutritional yeast, also eggs and mik) on a daily basis or by taking a sublingual B12 tablet of 10 mcg per day
Iron-beans, dark green leafy vegetables (like spinach),whole grain breads, Also eat something with vitamin c when you eat something with iron, it increases absorption
Calcium-dark green leafy vegetables (spinach, broccoli, soymilk)
Protein-Isn't really hard to get, just eat a variety of foods, good sources are beans, brown rice, nuts, whole grain breads, soy foods
Omega-3 fatty acids-flax seeds/oil,walnuts,canola oil
Zinc-pumpkin seeds (best source), beans and lentils, yeast, nuts, seeds and whole grain cereals
Selenium-Brazil nuts are a particularly good source of selenium, so try to eat a couple every day. Eating a small bag of mixed unsalted nuts can be a convenient way to get your daily selenium intake, but make sure it contains Brazils. Bread and eggs also provide some selenium.
Vitamin D- Vitamin D, often called the sunshine vitamin, is another common deficiency in those not drinking vitamin D fortified milk. Synthetic vitamin D is added to both cow’s milk and most brands of soy milk today.
Vitamins A (beta carotene),C, K, E and Folate-variety of fruits and veggies
Iodine-Iodine is a trace mineral that's important for healthy thyroid function. Table salt is the most common and reliable source of iodine in Americans' diets. (However, sodium in processed foods usually does not contain iodine.) If you don't consume table salt, you can get iodine from a multivitamin or from kelp tablets.
Read up on everything and reduce consumption over time. Don't become obsessive about it. It took me a very long time to give up cheese as a vegetarian until I realized it almost as fatty as butter (saturated fat, very bad!). Follow your Heart brand makes the best vegan cheese, although it's hard to get it to melt in a grilled cheese unless you warm the inside of the sandwich first. For pizza and nachos it works fine. I still eat cheese when I am out on vacation and it would be inconvenient to search out a true vegan meal. It's better to set an example of vegetarianism being healthy and easy rather than make people think vegetarianism is about denying yourself everything on the menu and being hard to feed. Explore new foods, reduce the animal foods over time and live happily and compassionately ever after!
if ur becoming a vegan u cant have eggs fish or if u choose not to milk or cheese. if ur becoming a vegetarian only milk and cheese are aloud because ur not actually killing the animal to get the item. eggs are debatable tho because ur not killing a born living animal but ur preventing it from becoming a cute feathery chicken. it's kinda like abortion matters. fish is debatable to. i just recently became a vegetarian and becoming a vegan is something most vegetarians want to work up to. oh ya you will need to make sure u take vitamens for protein for muscle and strength.
Try on google for vegetarian recipes they are a lot and i think they are very good or eat soya a lot, it is very good for you.
