blantently
dont... i did and regret it... meat is so good
i want to be a vegatarian as well. not a vegan tho. but n e way im 16. i told my mother she said NO! she continues to cook all the things i don't want to eat and i have no choice but to eat it.
well just be like "..you do know there are thousands of larvae in this piece of meat, right?" and then they will understand when you tell them you want to be vegan. And don't forget to tell them that there are scabs, puss, and blood in milk!
Tell them you thought about it and decided not to do it. There is no reason not to have a balanced diet. Meat is good, and veggies are very important too. Balanced is better than vegetarian. Eat with your head, not because you want to save the planet.
well just tell them. what are they going to do about it? so don't be shy and just come forward with whatever you have to say.
good luck
thx
paul
It shouldn't be a problem as long as you make sure to get the missing nutrients thru vitamins.etc. Just don't try to sell them on it. Ask for a "trial period" if they see you falling over from lack of nutrition then they can holler.
I think it is a wonderful decision to go vegan. I'm a vegetarian, and I love it. Just tell them that you want to start making your own decisions as far as what you eat. You have the right to eat whatever you want. Personally, I feel that it is a healthier choice to go vegetarian/vegan.
My little sister is 13 and Im her role model. She tried to be vegan like me and my parents tried to send her to the psychologist. I am serious. They thought that she had a serious eating disorder. I don't know why parents take our decisions like a betrayal.
there is a reason that humans have canine teeth. We are supposed to eat meat. You are just a little girl and you need your protein from meat and eggs, and your calcium from milk and cheese. You are still growing.
Still insist on being vegan? Then you can't eat out in any restaurants ever again. All the food is cooked on the same grill and in the same grease. Think those french fries are vegan? HEll no! theyre cooked in the same grease as chicken fingers. You might as well be eating chicken. Think refried bean burrito is vegan? hell njo, beans have pork fat in them. So pretty much if you insist on going vegan, you can say goodbye to ever eating anything but lettuce ever again.
dont even think about eating cookies or cake...its made with eggs. and no more white bread either.
Tell them you're thinking about it, and go to the library to get some books on it. It's a bit like growing stuff hydroponically - you have to be much more careful to make sure you're getting proper nutrition. And talk to your doctor as well before you start. Oh, and one other thing - don't lock yourself into doing it. If it doesn't work for you, don't be afraid to go back to being an omnivore. That's what we've been for at least 4 million years. Vegans are bucking a lot of evolution for what mostly amounts to a food cult. Still, if it's your cup of tea, don't let anyone stop you from at least trying it. There are plenty of happy healthy vegans in the world.
i stopped eating meat at the age of 10. i already knew how to cook as i was always in the kitchen. i just told my mom when she was taking meat out of the freezer to not take any out for me. as for any medical concerns your parents may have do a little research on the web so you can show them what you have learned and it also shows them you are mature enough to decide what you do and dont want to eat.
Tell them your're a flaming lesbian first. A regular Rosie O Donnel!
Then tell them,April Fool! I just don't want to eat meat any more.
They will relax immediately.
You open your mouth and speak to them. They may not like it but can't force you to eat meat. Then at mealtime eat whatever fixed that does not contain meat or meat juices. It's your choice to eat whatever you want to. Good luck!
like you said i would start as vegetarian......being vegan is a life PHILOSOPHY
I have been vegetarian, NO MILK, for 4 years now and i absolutely love my life as a vegetarian....i am also an adult with no one to answer to but the decision is still the same
as a vegan you must keep strict control of your environment....No animal products in your food as well as no animal products in your everyday goods, hygiene goods, no animal testing for the things you buy, clothing, makeup, and being conscience of how your decisions affect animals and the earth in general....a wonderful concept but tough to follow....this is why i say I am vegetarian with vegan philosophy....i do my best to my research on goods and buy only those that conform to be animal friendy yet i buy organic eggs, organic cheese
do your research as to why you want to be vegetarian...for ex.
health reasons that include: meat and dairy products are FULL of growth hormones, chemicals and antibiotics that you would rather not put in your body....also animal fats are simply not healthy for consumption
the treatment of animals in the mass dairy, meat, and egg industry is atrocious....you would rather not contribute to that
the environmental impact from mass dairy, meat and egg industry is having devestating effects....the incredible and gross amounts of waste from these animals is polluting our water, soils and vegetable sources (those spinach and lettuce e. coli outbreaks from california came from tainted water from dairy cows...they won't tell you that though).....you would not contribute to that
you can get your calcium, iron, protein and vit. and min. from better sources......dark green veggies are full of calcium and iron....strawberries have iron for example....and vegetable based fats are WONDERFUL for your health....avocados, olives, nuts and seeds, soy, flax and such have those great great omegga fats in them that your body uses to regulate your heart, blood pressure, moisturize your skin, hair and fingernails, and keep your brain healthy
my favorite brand of soy milk is Silk...check it out next time you go shopping and show your parents....the nutrients in soy milk don't even compare to nasty dairy milk.....and it can be used in cooking, cereal and such just like dairy milk is super super yummy!
so....prepare your reasoning and sit down for a talk with your parents.....tell them this is not out of rebellion, and you would really appreciate that they listen to what you have to say and that they help you in your journey to being healthy and earth conscience and you would LOVE it if they would consider making it a family affair!...not that they have to go vegetarian but try cooking great meals at home with you that include fun and fab veggies
my husband is a big meat eater but when i present him with big yummy mushrooms he cannot resist.....he says when he eats mushrooms with me he feels like he is eating meat!..how great is that?!...i even got him into the habit of reaching for fresh spinach leaves to top things with....veggies are soooo damn good and less hassle than meat
good luck honey.....and i'll be sending good vibes your way hoping your parents delight in the fact you want to be a responsible person in our society
good for you and good plan
first of all you have to be very nice to parents, dont' snap
because you'll want to snap, remember dont' snap
ok ,. ask your parents if they want the best for you, and if they say yes, then say you want to start eat healther, and you want to try with more veggs, and start eating as much veggs as you can when they feed you, and leave the meat portiion out, dont' tell em you're becoming a vegetarian, make it look like it's happening naturally, then you have to eat protein from other sorces, soy, nuts, seeds, beans, and eventrully stop eating meat, and just tell your parents you rather eat non animal protein, they'll problly understand, and after you get used to it, 6 months? you can be on your way to vegan.
just my 2cents
First of all- congratulations! It's always wonderful to hear of people deciding to go all the way (vegan ^-~)
I've been vegan for a while now, and I feel great! Telling your parents is hard, especially when you're young and dependant upon them. The main things you need to do are convince them it's healthy, and convince them to canter to your needs. My mum was great about it, she started buying vegetarian foods about a week after I switched (when she actually realized I was serious!) You need to get your parents to understand that this is a serious ethical decision you are making, and why you are making it.
Check out the following websites, and also have your parents read through them. The first is a page of links to websites (on especially for parents)

Good luck!
I heard this is a good book for teens (haven't read it myself since I'm not a teen)
