I need help!!?
I was raised on a farm and brought up on home raised meats. After a lot of soul searching I want to become a vegetaren but I keep craving meat. How can I get past these cravings?
Answers:
Whether you are quitting smoking, drinking or eating meat, you are up against an addiction, and quitting can be a very difficult process. Unlike other addictions however, meat products have been shoved in our bodies since birth, are easily accessible everywhere we turn, and offered to us as the obvious, easy and necessary way to live.
I crave chocolate, but it is not because my body needs the *important nutrients* it provides.
When we crave meat, we often crave the fat and grease. Fat is a highly addictive substance found in meat. You might *not feel satisfied* because your body is wondering where the heck the fat is. A great fix is to cook a dish heavy in olive oil; you will get the fat you crave (but please don’t make a habit of it.)
When you are transition, it is a good idea to make the meals you are used to, but with fake meat instead. You can still have much of what you are used to eating.
You also crave the seasonings you put on meat. Seriously, how often have you eaten plain meat with nothing on it. Get yourself a veggie burger (Garden burger All-American Classic) and add some onion, garlic powder, pepper, grilled onions, bbq sauce, veganaise... whatever you like.
It will fix the cravings.
~Good luck

Get the veggie meat stuff?
Wow you sure do. Good luck with that!
mind over matter.
There are many nice dishes one can make. Try something new.
Be sure to get your daily serving of protein. Protein is found in peanuts and soy products.
Also you can fool your eyes and mouth by eating things like garden burgers, veggie dogs and soy sausage. Really good stuff!
Mostly, mind over matter. A good way to help with your cravings it to eat something that your use to eating with meat and put a bouillon (i think that's how you spell it) cube in it or use the meat substitutes. That's how me and my sister handle it.
Ex: make chicken potpie but use tofu (cooked and seasoned like you would your chicken) and about 2 cubes if chicken bouillon.
Try fake meat.
I'm not a vegitarian but I know what ya mean. I get meat cravings a lot! You could probably substitute the meat with tofu. It really isn't too bad if you give it flavoring. You could get meat flavored tofu, if you'd like. It may or may not work, but hey! I try!
I craved meat for two years, but when I would buy a hamburger and look at it or smell it, I couldn't eat it. All I smelt was the burning blood, and it would turn my stomach. It drove me nuts, and I would have to throw it away, which I don't like to do. I tried the fake meat, which I don't like, and I tried the tofu, which I don't like, but nothing seemed to stop the cravings. Eventually the cravings went away, but it took two years, and it was hard, but I'm glad that I no longer crave meat. I haven't had meat in 18 years, and I feel a lot better for it. All it took was a lot of time and a lot of free hamburgers for my friends.
Good luck to you, and don't give up. The animals will thank you.
