Do vegans eat cake?!
Do vegans eat cake?
I was wondering because vegans don't eat eggs, right? Well, there are eggs in cake, so, do they?
Answers:
Well, I suppose they would if it didn't have eggs in it, wouldn't they. There are recipes for eggless cakes and also, there are egg substitutes.
I'm not sure if the oil in cakes would make them a no-no for vegans, but again, you can get a recipe that wouldn't call for oil.
And dear, KC, you should realize that posting the same question repeatedly is reportable.
There are types of cake without eggs. As long as you use vegetable shortening and no animal by-products (soy milk, margarine, etc) there is no reason you can't bake a vegan cake.
The basic recipe:
* 1 1/2 c. flour
* 1/2 c. oil (I use 1/4 plus water)
* 1 c. sugar (I like 1/2-3/4 c.)
* 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
* 1/4 tsp. salt
* 1 scant cup soy/ricemilk/water (water works fine)
Bake at 375 for 30 min. in greased pan.
yes there is a recipe for vegan cake and icing E- mail me if you want the site. I like real cake tho how 'bout you! :)
No, they don't. At least the smart ones don't.
There are cake recipes that are vegan and do not use eggs.
yes, they eat cake. THis vegan guy is always eating cookies, cake and cinnamon rolls.
well, maybe it's just him. but then again he's a total hippie who doesn't use paper plates. He doesn't even like meat sandwiches being placed next to his veggie hoagie.
i would think so, as long as it doesnt have eggs
it depends if it says 'suitable for vegans' or has the vegan society's sunflower symbol on the box
[or they could find a vegan recipe + make one theirselves]
there are vegan baked goods in specialty markets.
I'm not sure which of these 100 identical questions to answer, but.... 2 points for me!
Yes vegans eat cake...if it's made without eggs.
There are eggless cakes. I shop at a store that has vegan cakes and breads and you wouldnt know the difference. There are ingredients that replace eggs.
PS: You might want to delete the other 3 posts you wrote asking the same thing.
You can use Ener-G egg replacer or other options..
Egg and Dairy Replacers
As a binder, substitute for each egg:
1/4 cup (2 ounces) soft tofu blended with the liquid ingredients of the recipe, or
1 small banana, mashed, or
1/4 cup applesauce, or
2 tablespoons cornstarch or arrowroot starch, or Ener-G Egg Replacer or another commercial mix found in health food stores.
The following substitutions can be made for dairy products:
Soy milk, rice milk, potato milk, nut milk, or water (in some recipes) may be used.
Buttermilk can be replaced with soured soy or rice milk. For each Cup of buttermilk, use 1 cup soymilk plus 1 tablespoon of vinegar.
Soy cheese available in health food stores. (Be aware that many soy cheeses contain casein, which is a dairy product.)
Crumbled tofu can be substituted for cottage cheese or ricotta cheese in lasagna and similar dishes.
Several brands of nondairy cream cheese are available in some supermarkets and kosher stores.
