Another general question for everyone about vegetarians.?!

Question:

Another general question for everyone about vegetarians.?

I am a vegetarian and I have 4 pet chickens and a cow. (well he is a bull that I bought off of a farmer that he was actually going to keep and use for VEAL!!!! Some people are sick and cruel) Anyways I consume the eggs my chickens lay. Like I said though, they are pets. I work construction; therefore I have built them a home (a heated one at that, also, Jake the bull has his own place), I also put a gate around their home for night time so nothing gets in there after them. Besides night, they can roam as they please. I pet them, get them medicine when they are sick, and spend time with them all daily, but like I said, I do consume their eggs. I just want to know what you think of me doing that and why you think that way. Thank you for all of your input, and have a wonderful day!!!!

You're smart to do what nature/God intended. Taking care of the human need in the chain of things. Just realize that life should always be done in moderation. Don't regret not taking care of the humans in this world too.

In general, vegetarians usually wouldn't have a problem with this. More vegetarians are going more towards Free Range (not just cage free), Organic, and all vegetarian fed hens/eggs, so if you meet those requirements, even less vegetarians would have a problem.

Vegans, however, may have their own thoughts on this.

The infertile eggs will go to waste anyway.
It sounds to me like you are a very caring guy who takes wonderful care of his animals.
What's wrong with them 'giving back' to you in the form of eggs?
Vegetarianism is a lifestyle and not a religion, anyway, and small personal choices like you describe are really only between you and your chickens!
I am a vegetarian, but I do eat eggs and use yogurt. I wish I had the blessing of having chickens, as you do.
Enjoy your eggs guilt-free, in my estimation.
Good luck

I think you should butcher the cow, pluck the chickens.... buy some beer, and have a BBQ. Ill be over later..........

it's not as bad as eating meat

You are a good person! You treat your chickens MUCH better than the chicken in factory farms, but they still lose their eggs. I'm sure they don't mind, because they are living a life of chicken luxury! And the eggs aren't fertilized anyway, so they would be wasted if you didn't eat them.

your not a strict vegetarian because they dont eat animals or any animal products ( dairy such as milk, cheese, eggs)

The farmer was sick and cruel because he was going to eat veal(a baby cow), but yet you have no problem what so ever eating what could be a baby chicken? Got any roosters? If so, how can you be sure that none of the chickens' eggs you are eating were fertilised? Sick, twisted troll.

SOOOO if I do that with cows and pigs, raise them right, pet them, give them medicine etc, am I a better omnivore for doing that for my meat vs. getting my meat from the store/restaurant?

I'm a vegan. I am generally opposed to consuming
eggs because of factory farming.

HOWEVER, I think that what
you are doing is much better because you are not
confining them in cages and you are not robbing
them of their full life span. Also, Kudos to you for
rescuing the cow and looking after the chickens
that way. They would all be much worse off in the
hands of someone else. Lastly, congratulations
on recently becoming a vegetarian.

I think its great. You are caring for your pets, and enjoying their gifts-its a win/win situation. The hens dont have any use for their discarded unfertilized eggs. To let them go to rot, would be a wasted. I am sadly allergic to eggs, but would enjoy them if I could, I feed eggs from happy chickens to my daughter. Eat up and enjoy!

I don't see anything wrong in what you are doing.

hey i am a veggie n i think its okay for you to use there eggs i eat eggs most veggies do its vegeans that dont! i will onli eat free range eggs though! atleast ur being nice to them i think anyone who treats animals badly is a weirdo and needs mental help! and i am not a hippie or a tree hugger im just a veggie and im proud of it!

i'm a vegan and i don't eat eggs
and when i was a vegetarian i don't eat eggs
but i don't see a problem with you eating the chicken's eggs
if i were you, i problly eat eggs, problly
mostly i just want to play with the chickens, i don't care about them eggs, they can rot.

This is a much better situation to be sure, and I really cant fault you for it as you know exactly how these chickens are raised. However, I have a problem with animals being the property of humans, at all. No matter how well they are treated. You rescued the bull so no issue there. If your intention is to let these animals live their life's and then not "replace" them when they die, then I think what you are doing is a good thing. Maybe when that happens you'll consider going Vegan.

I'm vegetarian, not totally vegan, and my main concern about eggs is the factory farming conditions and hormones usages. If I was in your position I would not have a problem doing what you do. In fact, I would prefer it to buying even free-range eggs, since I really knew how they are treated.

I personally rarely use eggs since I don't eat them alone and now use replacers in baking, but I don't really see a problem with what you're doing. The eggs would just go to waste anyway.

I think this is great and don't see a problem with it at all...If I was assured that the eggs I was consuming were from chickens that led natural, enjoyable lives such as yours, I would have no problem consuming them...People in India keep cows as pets but also use their milk, and similarly, there is nothing wrong with this as long as the animal is being treated with respect...

Good for You keep up what you're doing! I eat eggs too but not often! I try to get the free range ones if possible! Eggs aren't necessary I just like the taste of them! The more vegetarians in the world the better! Meat is what makes people sick in more ways than one!

I think it's great that you saved these animals. Your doing a good thing.
My neighbor keeps chickens and ducks as pets too and we eat their eggs. There is nothing wrong with what you are doing. The problem is with the factory farms that touture their chickens, then kill them after just a few months.

PLEASE GET A ROOSTER FOR THESE HENS AND LET THEM START A FAMILY IT IS ONLY FAR.

There is nothing inconsistent with vegetarianism out of a concern for harming animals and eating chicken eggs.

Dude who else adopts a BULL?!?!?! WOW! talk about a dedicated vegetarian! My hat's off to YOU! If you're comfortable eating the eggs, why ask for an opinion? But since you did....I'm actually a lacto-ovo vegetarian. I have been limiting eggs since I cracked one open and it was BLOODY! I haven't bought an egg since, though I have bought Morn. Farms egg white products. My goal is to become vegan. If it bothers YOU to eat their ovulations then quit for YOURSELF.Either way you sound like a good hearted person!

I think you are a smart person. Just consider it as a way for the chickens to repay you for their room and board.
