What is so healthy about the vegan lifestyle?!

Question:

What is so healthy about the vegan lifestyle?

I know it's more of a belief thing, but it doesn't seem very healthy to me. Most vegans I've seen look so frail and emaciated. I find them hard to look at, like they are about to die or something. Anyway just wanted to hear what they have to say.

I'm not just talking the "T.V. vegan" either. Trust me, I've met a lot.

It seems so far that Ceasar M has the only intelligent answer.

I'm not trying to stereotype the vegan appearance either. I said "most vegans I've seen". not all vegans, because I haven't met/seen them all. Some of you are a little touchy, maybe even a bit insecure.

A vegan diet is not necessarily any healthier than one with meat. Vegans have to be careful about getting enough protein, iron and B vitamins. Meat eaters have to be careful about not getting too much saturated fat. The key to any diet is to make it balanced. Everyone's diet should be 30% protein, 30% fat and 40% carbs.

Read the China Study By Dr. T. Colin Campbell.

Seeing vegan characters on TV does not constitute as "seeing" vegans... also, knowing someone who knows someone whose sister is vegan does not constitute as seeing a vegan.

Pretending to know a vegan to get your point across is also not the same.

They eat alot of soy stuff, and they can't eat junk food. I know alot of vegans that are normal people, don't steroetype them.

Just take a look a this website :

http://www.beyondveg.com/

It explains a lot, and is quite impartial on the subject since all kinds of diets are represented, as well as people whom have given up alternative diets because of health problems (ie failure to thrive, which is like you describe, often characterized by emaciation and loss of stamina).

Unfortunately, most practicing vegans do not really recognize that the vegan diet is not right for everybody and will even be aggressive when somebody suggests it... Or with people whom have given it up. That's why you wont read any of them here...

First off id like to say my sister and i are vegans and neither one of us is frail, in fact we are extremly healthy, maybe because eating animals makes u turn in to one becomeing obese.Studies show that eating animals causes ,colon cancer,on a high fat diet more than in a vegan diet.Dairy and animal fat diet studies report correlation incidence of prostate cancer, lung cancer, and breast cancer.Coronary arteries get clogged, it cuts of blood supply to heart and arteries going to the brain get clogged causing strokes, and fish contain high pesticide content ,lead ,mercury and PCBs.Eat what you want vegans are mindful, compassionate,EVOLVED individuals,I dont consume animals because its cruel and if u new what was in the cow ur eating and how it was raised u might change ur views if eating unheathy tortured diease ridden animals feeds ur soul than i feel sorry for u.
