I'm a vegetarian and...?!

Question:

I'm a vegetarian and...?

I eat a lot of things like cheese pizza, canned soup, grilled cheese sandwiches, cereal, and things like that. Is there anything I should watch out for in my diet? I really want to gain weight so I eat as much as possible but I don't want to eat too much of the wrong thing. I have noticed a lot that I get heartburn badly after I eat and I think its because of all the sodium I eat trying to gain weight. Any recommendations on changing things in my diet? (I'm not eating meat, so thats out of the question, but perhaps some healthier foods?)

I would eat a lot of beans and legumes. All that sodium and carbs is bad for you. You need legumes, but at the same time still eat your fruits and veggies.

You could try 2 find medicine that helps u gain weight.

Why would you eat sodium to gain weight??? All it would do is cause water build-up!

Eat things like beans (healthy for you, but fairly high calorie), dairy products--ice cream is fattening, dense whole grain breads, and a lot of pasta, rice & noodles.

I thought vegetarians didn't eat cheese because it came from animals??

For weight gain, I think you need to make sure you get enough protein in your diet. That means beans, nuts, tofu (soybeans).

Also from what you eat it doesn't look like you get enough fruits and vegetables (the leafy green type) in your diet.

Y in the world would u wanna gain weight? ")

~Smile cause God loves you~

nuts and avacados are great and great for you... lots of fat
as for the cheese, don't eat to much, it can hurt your bones.

I would eat extra protien (notmeat) There are many foods that contain protien.

If you are tired of the junk food you can try fish. It is not meat so you can try to eat it. If those certin foods are giving you heartburn just take a pepcid before you eat you will be fine oh and don't forget to eat your fruits and vegtables. You can also try a vegi pizza. I am not a veg so I wouldn't really know but i hope my answer helps!

more protien to gain weight try the bars and shakes in the health food section of the grocery strore

eat some tofu, rice, noddles, eat more fruits and veggs
eat more nuts and seeds

things to lookout for
high fat, high sugar, highly processed food, pizza is ok everyonece in a while, cereal is not really good, eat oatmeal instead

if you're a vegetarian/vegan.. we are keeping tabs on the ingredients on those items you consume?

canned items alot of times contain animal biproduct.. some cereals...

watch out for candies and ice creams, jello....

heartburn is coming from the processed junk in those foods you are eating.

time to get logical and read those lables and do some research on what each element means.

you're eating alot of junk.

go fresh, eat fresh fruits, veggies... so on.

don't worry about weight gain... that'll come in time.

appreciate your underweightness. so many worry then mess things up.

Being a vegetarian, you really have to focus on getting enough protein and iron and those types of things in your diet. Eating lots of dairy is not necessarily the solution to your problem. Vegetarian or not, fruits and vegetables are such a huge part of a diet. Eating the correct amount of fruits and vegetables will provide you with almost all of the nutrients that you need. Just eating cheese pizza and grilled cheese is unhealthy and you're missing key nutrients in your diet. Adding dairy is definetly something you should do, but in moderation. Being a vegetarian, it is expected that you might lose some weight. I recommend if the weight loss would be a concern that you consult your doctor to ask for healthy ways to keep your weight up and to do some research on vegetarian diets.
