I'm confused, i have a problem!!!?!

Question:

I'm confused, i have a problem!!!?

ok, I have decided to switch my diet into a semi-vegetarian diet (only eat seafood), today, at lunch, I saw my mom putting something that looked like fish on a plate, and I asked her "is that a new kind of fish?" and she said yes...during lunch, my dad also said that the fish tasted good...but then mom said that she was joking that that was chicken...
I really hate the fact that she lied to me just to make me eat chicken...so I got upset and I left the table...
Can you please tell me what to do?

Answers:
I think that is awful, i was so paranoid when i first became vegy...mum cooked a qourn bolognaise and i was so sure it might be meat...
That is really hard for you, as she has betrayed your trust. I ma sorry to hear that.
Does she realise how upset you are over this? HAve you explained that you are serious about being vegy?
Im sorry, but i dont know what to do to help...i can only comfort you.
Go to this website www.viva.com. It is a fanstastic vegy/vegan/pescetarian website (only eat seafood-me 2!) that gives you names of products with gelatine in, and answers to q's meat eaters eat.
I think you should keep trying, crying may help!!!
Seriously, maybe you need to start cooking for yourself...it is hard for your mum to cook diff foods, but not impossible.
You just have to show her how much this means to you,

I agree with you i think it was wrong for your mother to lie to you about what you were eatting. I think it kind of depepnds on your age though, if you are a adult then it was really wrong. If you are a kid i can maybe understand why she did it but i think the best course of action for you is to sit her down tell her it bothers you and to explain why you are doing this diet.

If your really wanting to switch your diet to vegan or vegetarian at a slow pace, thats ok some people cant change over real fast. read your material and educate your parents as well, then make the switch as soon as your ready.

There is no such thing as a semi-vegetarian. Either you eat flesh or you dont. No type of vegetarian eats seafood.

What do you do? Call yourself a pescetarian or pescivore and not a vegetarian and start making your own lunches. There is not much you can do now that what's done is done...just tell your mom you didn't appreciate it.

unfortunately, people will try to get you to eat meat all of the time. Me and my 12 year old daughter are veggies, and kids at school try to get her to eat it all of the time. First of all, the correct term is pescatarian, if you eat fish, but not chicken or meat. Try explaining to your mom how important this is to you, and that you need to be able to trust her and your dad. I think if she hears the word trust, she might rethink it. I certainly would, and I am sorry that happened to you. Feel free to email me or my daughter

you should sit down with your mom and talk about why you have decided to cut meat out of your diet, and what it means to you. i assume you are a teenager, but your mother should still respect your choices, and you should communicate this to her, without getting upset or angry at her. you might also want to participate more in preparing food with her, to create healthy, affordable, and good tasting meals for your whole family.

talk to your mom about how serious you are about your decision. Explain why you made it. Tell how upset you are that she lied to you and didn't respect you wishes.

Then learn to cook your own food beside your mother. Share in the dishes that are "clean." Don't expect special treatment, and don't expect them to understand.

You will hear that it is a fad, that you don't know what is good for you, that you need more protein.

It is not a fad if you truly believe you are doing the right thing.
It can be a healthy way to eat, if you do the research.
And protein is so overconsumed in this country it is sad. Every edible food product has some protein in it. Cows get plenty of protein from grass.

Good luck, and you made a very difficult and courageous decision.

my mom did the same to me, i flipped out and throw out all the meat in the refregator

that was the wrong way to deal with it

you just got to talk to your mom and reason it out, if she wont' reason with logic then you have to cook for yourself

Hi Pikora,
I can understand you were upset about your mom's lie... But that's not the end of the world Dear... You ate chicken and so what...? It was not a decision you take, you should play the same game... invite someone she does not want to see home, or tell her you're pregnant... just to make her feel how its like to be 'cheated'... However be careful not to hurt her...
Good Luck

That was absolutely horrible for her to do to you... talk about breaking trust and being mean-spirited.

If you cannot trust your mother or father (which is terribly sad and I feel bad for you) you should start preparing some of your own things around the house. If you don't trust it, don't eat it. Take inventory of the fridge to see what is around. Read the labels on the different boxes in the cupboards.

Perhaps keep a little list in your room of what you can and can eat. That way if they make a dish, and you know there is meat in it, you can politely eat the side dishes.

I am really sorry you had to go through such a mean display of lack of respect.
:(

By the way, vegetarians do not eat fish. You are what we would call a "meat reducer." It is a great step on the path, but not vegetarian.

Good luck with your family. Maybe if they understand how cruel their treatment was, they will stop.

MAKE dog sh** cookies...and after they try them..let them know you were just kidding about the "chocolate cookies"..then offer them more and when they say no...call them "chicken"...it all fits together very nicely don't you think?

Oh, please! How can anybody confuse the taste of fish with chicken! Your mum (maybe with your dad in on it) was just joking to you to see your reaction; if it tasted like fish then it was fish.

My mom tried to do that with meat but now I am careful and wait until they their own plate. Ummm all you have to is make sure your parents get the fact you are a vegetarian in progress and also tell them that you really want to be a vegetarian. And try not to eat meat or be by it, I'm sure you don't :) Have nice day! (@_@)
