Because many people do not know what a vegetarian really is. Many think that vegetarians eat fish for some reason. There is a person thats posts all the time here (the poster right above me actually) that is an example of spreading wrong information. She claims to be a vegetarian yet eats fish BUT will turn around and tell a person that DOES eat fish that he isn't a vegetarian! Go Figure! A classic Wanna Be!
Because they are confusing them with fish?
Some people just don't know what a vegetarian is. Do you drink milk or eat eggs?
Because ignorance is bliss and lots of people think that vegitarian means just no red meat.
because some 'vegetarians' eat chicken and/or fish.
i dont know WHY though. some people consider fish to not be meat..
closed minded people can't wrap their brain around the concept. I get asked all sorts of weird stuff too, like "how do you survive on rabbit food" lol. I eat more variety than most people I know, and none of it is something I would feed to my rabbit!
Some people just don't eat beef because its more bad for you, chicken is less bad for you and has less fat. Some people are vegetarian because they don't believe in killing animals, and some don't eat meat because they think its bad for them, which its not if you eat the right kind and aren't eating fast food and hamburgers all day.
hahahahahahahaha. Because people are morons
A lot of people say they are vegetarians but they still eat meat. white meat evidently is ok to eat in most peoples minds. fish and chicken are meat but not a red blooded steak. a true vegetarian should only eat veggies and nuts.
Because some vegetarians think there are caveats to being a vegetarian. Some eat only eggs (Ovo vegetarianism), milk (Lacto vegetarianism), or both (Lacto-ovo vegetarianism), only fish (Pescetarianism), only chicken (Pollotarianism). The list goes on and on.
Flexitarianism is a diet that consists of mainly vegetables but does allow occaisional exceptions.
In my opinion, the only true vegetarians are vegans and budhist monks. Everyone else is a flexitarianism in my eyes. Just my opinion.
Good luck.
Many people do not know what a vegetarian eats because there are so many variations. A lacto-vegetarian consumes some dairy products. Some vegetarians do eat chicken and fish but not beef or pork. My sister in law is a vegan but she strays at times.
Rather than being upset, educate the person as to the type of vegan you are. "Sorry, but I never eat any meat" etc.
why do you feel that you must tell everyone in the world what kind of diet that you are on.
so do you eat chicken ?
I ate vegetables with my SPAM last night
no one cares
Ignorance! But it is not entirely their fault. The people to blame are the animal eaters who eat fish and chicken and still try to call themselves veg.
When people use incorrect labels and information, everyone gets confused. So if you ever see a meat eater calling themselves veg, politely try to explain to them that vegetarians do not eat animals. Some think if they are vegetarian for *health reasons* they can be veg if they eat *healthy* dead animals.
Not true. You either eat rotting carcasses or you don't.
:)
It is also the fault of bunk websites like wikipedia (written by average people, *popular thought* is NOT fact, please don't every try to pass of wikipedia as a source) and that horrible Yahoo "About" column writer who posted her views and labels for people who want to call themselves veg even though they find nothing wrong with eating animals. I have already written to that lady and asked her to stop writing misinformation as per suggestion of KitKat.
You should too.
:)
If someone asks if you eat chicken or fish, just politely say
"a/n (insert dead animal here) is an animal; vegetarians do not eat animals," and politely smile.
Me too, isn't it annoying. I think to some people it's just a confusing issue because they haven't looked into it. I have a friend who eats chicken, and thought she was vegetarian. I think the different levels from pescatarian through to vegan make the whole thing a bit fuzzy.
Those that eat me@t do not have the education about vegetarian ism or vegan.
because some people are ignorant of vegetarianism, and perhaps they don't even think of foul as meat at all - when a vegi most definitely knows that it's meat
also, there are a lot of 'fake' vegi's out there who say they don't eat meat but you'll find their diet does actually contain chicken or fish for example
Some people consider red meat, poultry and fish to be different categories, and when they think a vegetarian doesn't eat meat, that only means red meat.
I don't know why people ask that. It's really strange, isn't it?
When I went to the doctor for a physical, I finally told the doctor that I've been a vegetarian for years. She said it was great, analyzed my blood, and then asked me if I eat chicken and fish. The first thing that came to mind was "Fish and chickens aren't vegetables, are they?", but I was polite :)
like several people have already stated before: some people r just slow/retarded and don't know what the hell a vegetarian/vegan is-educate them so they'll know
they also ask if i eat fish-it gets [pretty] annoying sometimes
i experience the same kind of treatment but i've learned how to cope with it
I am a vegitarian too and I think it is so annoying when people have certain levels of animals. Like it's ok to eat chicken or fish but not beef and pork. It makes them sound so uneducated. My roommates always offer me fish because they think because I'm a vegitarian thats all I can eat. HELLO! It's still meat. Just kills me. Either that or it's the opposite, I get asked dumb questions like "Do you drink milk?" or "Don't you get tired of eating salad?". Just kills me! I feel your pain girl. People just don't understand what they aren't. I'm a lesbian so to straight people, I just want to jump on every female I see. And since I'm a vegitarian, all I eat is lettuce and carrots.... and CHICKEN AND FISH of course ha ha! JK.
